Religious pundits are quick to blame
Disasters as retribution for the sinful and lame
If God is merciful then he will heal
Our hearts from doubt and thoughts of evil
Those who confuse natural events as purposeful acts
Tend to project motives than look at the facts
The Good Book is replete with triumph and struggle
From Abraham to Paul we sing from our hymnal
Our task is not to second guess
Nature’s horrors that kill and distress
Poor and rich, friend and foe
Entire nations decimated by the flow
Earthquakes, floods, pestilence and fire
Teach us humility if only for a while
Those foolish to think they’re immune
Haven’t faced reality for they live in a cocoon
Of sanctified safety because they believe
In good and evil to which they cleave
Tell India and Indonesia that they were due
If you share this view, you haven’t a clue
Tell the parents they lived in sin
If you’re so predisposed, that’s your spin
Look at the good that follows bad
Unite and believe—don’t be mad
I believe God shows his power and that he is still in control. He is the mighty one and almight in all he does. He calms the seas, makes the people repent and much more. I truly believe he must keep reminding people of their sins cause he was truly rebuking many people in the bible, but he always forgave them of their sins in the end. Distruction can be put back together again, it just takes much time.
thank you for sharing your views. many, many christians are guilty of blaming disasters on the sinners, in effect, saying they deserved them. i believe in God, but don't believe that way. i believe that sometimes God uses a force of nature to remind us that He is in control and will not be ignored. like lori, i am not a God expert, so i really don't know...i do know that He is there in the midst of the disaster. as christians, as humans, we need to reach out and help those suffering--i think that is what He would want

Well I have studied the Bible a lot and not the God expert but someone said this. They asked where was God? He was there all along in that more were spared by this event than died. You have to search deep and my God says reach out to help heal.
Religious pundits may indeed be guilty of this, but it seems to me those who so often ignore or deny the existence of god love to play this same blame game. Personally, I don't see god in any of it, but I'm not the god expert. Good write.
