For those who place printed word to page
In grandiose fashion to entertain and upstage
Tis said the pen is mightier than the sword
Tell that to struggling writers who ill afford
To give up their day job for a world of fantasy
Living out their dreams in total ecstasy
Open up any mainstream book
I dare you to take a look
At the acknowledgement page where praise
Is lavished on those who saved
The writer from looking like a fool
Who just finished graduate school
Go ahead and try your luck if you think it easy
Tis not for the faint of heart and queasy
Stroke the keys to your fingers tire
And hope your thoughts do not become mired
Why do you think rejections rain from heaven
As you work your next draft seventy times seven
Praise for the writers who stay with their craft
And don’t give up even after the shaft
From pundit agents who think they know how
To pick the right manuscript for the next cash cow
You can have your Grishams, Kings, and Pattersons
I’ll stake my claim on the manuscripts undone
Well done!
John
than trying to compose a page of good writing. There's a good
reason why Fitzgerald and Faulkner and O'Hara and so many
other fine writers lived (and died) by the bottle.

I've noticed that even the rich and famous are required to promote heavily their books to improve sales. It is too bad that people don't read for the quality of the book, but rather because they think they have some connection with the author.
Your words were my words, exactly. Thank you for writing them.
