RED COVERLET

Written one Wintry late afternoon when suffereing intense anxiety...the calm of the scene before me calmed and soothed..my red coverlet was too vibrant for my state of mind...

Softly falling giant snowflakes,
A kind and calming meditation

To end my day of inner fear.

Cool Winter air stealing in through
Partially open window,
Refreshes with its unique frosty quality,
Stirring happy childhood memories of Christmas Eve.

Sun glinting on frosty snow still has the power
To thrill and move my ever-hopeful soul.....

Hopeful for a miracle to transform my restless,
Anxious world, to a place of Peace, Hope and Joy.

A Wood Pigeon coos confidently
In the bare trees beyond,

Strangely, simply, soothing, soothing,
Dwindling light throws stark branches
Into eerie contrast, against the snow-laden skies.

My red fleece coverlet, of snowflakes,
Pine trees and Polar Bears, assaults
My sensitive senses with its vividness,

Its vibrant sketch of Winter.

The outside whiteness
So soothing in contrast
Envelops each snowflake born from the skies,
Like each new face born to the world,
Alone, unmatched, hoping to be acknowledged
In its distinctive, frozen state of being.

Orange lamplight, glows slowly and slyly
Like a pair of Cat's eyes,
Luminous and beautiful, as in sudden confrontation.

And the silence,
The wonderful, tranquilising sound of silence,
That only the snow can bring,

Muffling the harshness and sharpness
Of everyday noise.

I lie back and breathe deeply and slowly,
My breath, steamy, soft and soundless
In the chilly air.

Just for a few joyful moments,
I let go, relax...relax

Blowing my fears away into the
Stillness and darkness of the Silent Night,
Sinking back into the gentle muted colours
Of my little world of soft-white calm.

My red coverlet thrown aside cannot invade
My temporary tranquility,

For now, and now is all we ever have,
I am,

I am

At Peace.....

I think if we were all honest we would say that we all have moments of intense anxiety in our lives-loved your poem --if you ever need to unburden yourself in total confidence I will walk beside you--even from far away and be a listening ear for you-Bless you--DK

It is the color blue or green that I need on days like this. I felt the cold air as you partially opened that window and I felt good. Oh, even for those moments of tranquility!

Love ya!

The visuals contained within the verses of this piece are the most powerful forces in your arsenal and you have used them wisely...by speaking straight from the heart exposing raw emotion. THAT is what makes you a fine poet and distinguishes you from the everyday writer.

Your writing has always had the power to move my soul...that hasn't changed. Beautifully written...

I, too, wrote of those restless feelings in my last poem. :~)

Very descriptive imagery in this poem that shows how emotions can be calmed by observation when the focus is not on the terror inside.

The images you paint allow the reader to feel the overwhelming pressure of the coverlet as society compared to the outside world of snow and frosty air as freedom. Yet over all your strength is present.
