Poem Artwork

Dear Mother,

You've been gone so long now but it seems like yesterday

You were here beside me guiding me every way.

Your long black tresses, so silky, smooth

Graced your five foot frame

With eyes as black as lumps of coal, your vision still remains.

I see you everywhere I turn, your laughter fills the air

Like moonbeams dancing on the clouds

With stars around you proud.

Everything you told me, everything you did

I practice doing what you said, like I did when as a kid

I remember you saying this tiny little phrase,

"Don't fret, my fair haired butterfly

One day, you'll be all grown

Your wings they soon will fly

Then my darling little girl, you'll be on your own."

But how could I without your grace

And gentle nudging play

Find myself, all grown up without your knowing way?

Now, I'm the mirror of your soul

Reflecting all I learned

I've passed along your special love

To my children for to learn

Those Mothers, everywhere this world

Were special little girls

Turned into kind, the Mother roles, watching their children grow.

Oh, Mother, I do miss you so but I know that you're all right

And yes, I know one day will come when we'll be in sight

Then we'll romp and frolic when as a child I knew

And sit and talk and laugh and cry

We'll have our second try.

Until it comes, I want you to know, I remember you everyday

And cherish all you did for me in your special way.

Now, it's time for me to close

You've heard my every word

and

I'm holding you close, down in my heart

 On this blessed Mother's Day.

In loving memory of my Cherokee mother, Cille

1919 - 1984

Everyone in the world needs to be reading your work. MeMa was something else.

Now then, if in I take the time God has given me on this vacation I'll exercise my super human brain with your books.

I Love My Momma!

Loved this write, as I too have Cherokee blood flowing within me and am very passionate about my ancestors, my great grandmother was Cherokee. I don't really remember her very well, but my grandfather told wonderful stories about her to help keep her memory alive. This write is my favorite thus far, it is beautifully written and from the heart! Enjoyed this so much!
Blessings,

Thanks, EVERYONE! I could have written forever about my Mother as she was the best person I could have had for a mother. She always spoke in metaphors: About the deer telling me to run swift, to watch the birds as they would speak to you [letting you know when a predator was in sight], to talk softly as the tongue is prong on a gate, and to be mindful about my worst enemy...me. She was a jewel and shined brighter than the Hope diamond. Hugs to all of you, Joyce

Passing on all that you have learned to your children, now that is a tribute to withstand the test of time. Beautifully written.

Be safe,
Karen
