Green Velvet
Green velvet meandering lawn
bisected by miles long
crooked running
minimally rolling
concrete walkway
Coming off my rear patio
early morning
finds Gracie and me
walking the rolling lawn
appearing to my eye
as green velvet
Early morning energy
chasing a number of seed hunting black birds
Gracie then bounds after a teasing, chattering squirrel
Peacefully now
Gracie and I walk the early morning
green velvet lined walkway
of where my home is situated
and
though not the religious type
each morning the beauty of this place
this place that I have the great fortune
of living causes my mind to wonder
of the great fortune that brought me
to this place of such beauty,
to this place of early morning meandering solitude
Running up the slight
vine covered embankment
disappearing behind a stand of tall standing bushes
it takes but a minute for Gracie to run back
because
smart dog has me so trained
that for his running and hiding a treat is tossed
into his waiting mouth
On we go, my friend Gracie and me
to walk the green velvet rolling lawn
and
though not the religious type
I thank God for bringing me to this place
of solitude
to this place of meandering early morning
green velvet
to this place of beauty I am fortunate to
call home
Gracie, by the way is an adopted five year old "Yorkirdoodle" that we brought home from the shelter on 3/2/20... Two days before our shutdown.
And I am reminded by your poem with my few forays on our street with my adopted dog Jazz, a Pomeranian. He became so devoted that it was though I had a leash on him. He never traveled beyond the side of me and always knew that he could return to my lap if ever threatened by a dog or other peril that little dogs are heir to.
I miss him and I miss long walks in the wilderness a half-hour drive from my home. Thanks for the memories…

A delightful, weaving poem, appreciating what you have, nay what you want. Like lil Goldilocks, it's just right.

Your home and garden sound so beautiful...
Warm wishes,
