Ghosts of Times Past
by
D. E. Z. Butler
See them? I see them. At night or in the daylight when the quiet surrounds me and them. They are always here waiting for my soul.
Waiting for me to join them. I want to go with them; but there is always that “but”. Why go? They are here and I have no reason to leave. No reason to stay.
Skin crawls at those times as they pass me by and try to let me see them. Friends long past. Family long past. But I stay. Earth has cliffs and seas still yet for me to see. Sometimes I feel as if I am a ghost. Especially when I drift from dimension to dimension.
I only remember the good times and not the difficult ways or times we all experienced. Scary is a thought but not reality for me. I love them still with me. Every now and then a
glance I see the hint of an eye and a smile, so I know the person I once knew.
Lead me to the doorway of the past. Just one more day to play and laugh. Just a day. Me the one who thought I would go first; God has other plans for me. I only make the best of those times; no wonder the fun was intense. I only saw and wanted happiness.
Take my hand and I will bring you to the dimensions I travel too. Fingers touching and souls floating. Yes, you can let me lead you; even those that are gone from earth may come.
In my head I only think; no reason to be here and no reason to leave. Give me a reason for I feel death’s door close by me. Deaths door with no doorknob.
