THE PROBLEM WITH THINKING VERSUS KNOWING

How can you categorize this, really? Is it "Poetry?" Sure. Is it about "Relationships"? Certainly. But I chose "Psychology" as my AuthorsDen category because I wanted to see who was attracted into washing up against my mental shoreline here tonight.

Part of my game here at AuthorsDen is to make my process as transparent as possible to the reader, so I've put down two versions (stages of development, really) of this poem. Completing the "first draft" (version one, below) took ten minutes, whereas its subtle refinement (version 2) took nearly twice as long. Isn't life just like that? Mine certainly is.

I always liked watching those street artists working with their colored chalks upon the sidewalks of downtown San Francisco. What I'm attempting with this AuthorsDen poem forum cum poetry form is somewhat analogous to that. So I hope someone out there enjoys witnessing me and my art as a work in progress. After all, what is life if we can't have fun catching each other in the act of discovering ourselves?

(Though living in the human house of mirrors makes this a verrrry tricky proposition indeed.)

Cuz none of us is really a completed thought until the moment we die ... baby!

Just remember this, my friend: The finished work reflects an illusion of our process, its merest shadow, whereas showing our seams is the truly subversive act.

In other words, how real is your presentation, both to others and (most of all) to yourself?

And so now you know what this poem is REALLY about. Enjoy the confusion!

You think you’ve met me

Oh, yes, I see

But who you met is not what I was meant to be

You think you’ve got me

all figured out

But what you think you know is not what I’m about

The brave reflection

is not the cat

And as you rub against your life,

remember that

No one to witness

your changing spots

Unless the ones you love the most

connect the dots

So choose your poison

Invent your plan

Because this cat you think you’ve met

is not the man

I don't know what you game is either, but you have a heavy dose of "superiority" within you words.

I am impressed! I don't think I can connect the dots because I don't know what the next move in your AuthorsDen game is. I will be most happy to connect the points you have made here and continue on this journey when you post your next bit. I am the one with the purple chalk. I have no problem with thinking. Thanks, Bill.
