What’s That Smell?
I said, “What is that smell?”
While I walked, holding the hand of Aunt Flo,
She said, “That’s the smell of rain.
That’s what makes things grow.”
It soaks right down into the ground,
Snuggles up close to the roots of the tallest trees-
Makes flowers bloom, and grass turn green-
It makes birds joyously sing, and gives the buzzzz to the bees
Then Aunt Flo begin to show me things,
Grand things I’d never seen-
Tiny frogs, and turtles just as small-
just hatched chicks, with naked little wings
Up the road a bit we heard a squawk and a squeak,
so we hurried to capture a look-see-
There on the pond of a farmer’s land-
was a Mama Swan and seven swimming babies
Not too far away stood a horse and her brand new colt,
with big marbled eyes, and long squiggly legs-
It was a busy busy morning, grunting pigs, cackling hens,
Aunt Flo said it was because they had been laying eggs
So Aunt Flo bought some, eggs that is,
fresh from the hen house, off the farmer’s land-
When we got home, she cooked’em right up,
I said, “What’s that smell?” She said,
“It’s Spring, ain’t it grand?”

One can definitely smell it in the air.
Yes, it is. Well done! You've captured all of the wonderful things of the season and put it in fragrant, beautiful poetry; well done!

It surely is, as is this poem! And when I saw the pic, I thought 'that smell' might be good old horse manure. I even like the smell of that - especially in the Spring.
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Karen Lynn. :D
This is a joy to read. Love the spirit of spring told through an sweet conversation. Your words paint a fresh, vivid picture.
