A spoken word piece from my book,
A Real Woman's Spoken words
A constant struggle,
Day to day hustle,
of a mother trying to hold it down;
The man of the house no longer around;
So now it’s my job to jump and search for every tray sound.
Noises that echo in the night;
Reassure my kids that everything will be alright.
I found my strength while on my own,
Always knew I could make it alone.
No it ain’t easy; the stress almost killed me,
But I think of my babies smiles and move on.
Staying positive and strong;
Contrary to what people may think, I am happy.
I don’t belong to any body.
Control and power in my hands,
Able to make my own plans;
I don’t need to be guided by any man.
Instead I intimidate them, because I can hold my own
Don’t need to be rescued, just want to be pursued.
By the one that is willing to let me, be me.
I am a gift not a necessity.
I am no man’s property.
No matter what I've had to go through,
This woman is coming out on top.
You can throw any obstacle at me,
And I’ll keep pushing forward,
I’m a survivor, and I won’t stop…
