These hollow eyes can't stand to see
the fully raged figure standing infront of me
These shaking hands can't hold onto
the shallow breaths that you drew
A weak mind can't cope with a sick heart
you can leave it at that or pick it all apart
The fact of the matter still stands as it's said
before you lose it, make sure your heads fed
Cry waves clear eyes there's no realities
don't lose your cool in the face of fatalities
These long steady legs are growing sore
keep running and maybe you'll escape the war
These sickening aches from way down deep
don't dare to scream, don't dare to sleep
An open mouth can't make up for a closed mind
show the world that we're to be defined
You can't make it right if the choice is wrong
we've been pushing and pulling for far too long
Tell them they're crazy, but then what are you
no one will follow if you can't follow through
These quiet ears are absorbing every sound
you must keep listening if you want to be found
These heavy shoulders are sinking much faster
if this doesn't end now, be prepared for disaster

The courage is in you. Don't give up the fight! You give rhymed poetry such meaning. Have you thought of writing songs?

" ... You can't make it right if the choice is wrong

tells me that we need to take care of our own before trying to police the rest of the world - am I right?
And,
" ... risking your life for an 'honorable mention' ...."
We don't sign our names, raise our hands, don the uniform, serve our country to be recognized. We do it because we want to. As the daughter/sister/niece/cousin of Veterans, as well as a USAF Veteran myself, I followed in my heroes footsteps. Still, it would be nice if those whose orders we've followed would say, "Thank you" and keep promises made.
Thank you for penning this one.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
