When I see someone's candy dish
So full of sweets and yummy goo
I do recall my grandmother's
Her coffee table had one too

When we arrived from on the road
We traveled hard and needed rest
My grandma's candy dish would serve
Us all the treats we loved best

The dish was glass and round and clear
And ornamental on the fringe
It held all different kinds of things
For us to snack or even binge

Some spearmint leaves or candy corn
Or chewy chocolates and more
At times a trip to grandma's house
Was like a visit to the store

It was not just for visitors
'Cause grandma liked some candy too
I'll always love the puffy face
That she would wear when she would chew

You make me homesick for my grandmother... she had one of those double-decker candy dishes... and homemade eglish toffee made with real butter, and crunched just a little, and the chocolate got stuck in your teeth... I miss her candy dish too. I have her recipe, but it's not the same...

I think the meter gets a little in the way of the imagery in some places in this poem-- but not bad. And there's something to be said about rhythm in poetry... it's a good thing, far too under-rated and scorned, in my opinion. So, when you're in the groove, you gotta groove with it. That's all there is to it. --Charlie

What I remember most about my Grandma is that she was williing to spend hours and hours playing games with me. The one game in particular I remember is the game, "Sorry". I think she let me win a lot.

This was a refective memory for me, as my grandma owned the
same kind of candy dish...filled with treats.
My mom inherited the dish, and her own grandchildren came to
nibble sweets out of it.
Nice poem,Mt. Poet.

Ok more memories of candy as i could see that candy at my grandmother's house just tempting us to get a piece and slip outside.
Those were the days when me as kids had no worries.
Thank you

My granny introduced me to coffee ice cream, iced tea and hot scones from the oven... AND she had a candy dish.. a pink one! Ah, Mountain P, you took me back to a less complicated time and I thank you. I can just see your Irish head boppin' in anticipation as you wind your way to grandma's treats! You always take me where you are going and I love that. YOU are MY treat! (smile) katydid xox.
