New poem about my struggle with speech

I Got A Voice

01/09/2010

I got a voice

That stays low key calm in the cuts

Plottin plannin observin its surrounding

Measuring you from millimeters to inches to feet

I know you better than the assumptions you depend on

Nothing to fear but fear itself my daddy use to say

She’s scared

Don’t let it hold you back

Who's back is being held

My voice and I got this

Stay consistently patient waiting on the right time

When the big hand and small hand nod in agreeance

Keep chattin amongst your insecure selves

Let me continue to work myself into perfection

So when I take the stage, break out the cage you'll fall vulnerable to my rage

21 is knockin on my door

Treat me like the woman my mama taught me to be

I'll attempt to treat you with the same respect

The limited confidence is amusing to my ego

Heads will soon turn hands will soon be open

Cold shoulder will be my new moto

If you didn't believe in me then don't fake it now

I got a voice and words to compete with

Didn't you peep book number one

Or were you not ready for the accomplishment I conquered

I understand you didn't expect it

Placed high bets a college education is the only thing she'll have to fall back on

You didn't care to listen, stumbled words had no importance

Ha

Frame of mind is shattered, everyone’s opinion matters but her's

I got a voice

And I'll let it loose when you least expect it

It is a difficult thing to cultivate and use our voice when the whole world seems to conspire to keep us quiet. I love the poem and you have a strong voice.

Always find it so sad when people do not believe they have worth, when the truth is we all have worth, beautifully expressed...

Be always safe,
Karen

Antoinette,

Fantastic. I could hear your voice shout from the page, saying hey you, I'm somebody, listen!

Mary
