"Goodnight, Sweet angel,"
You whisper over my ear.
"Now open wide, I have
Something for you, here.

So without doubt I did,
I shut my eyes with trust.
I opened my mouth and
Upon my lips, tasted rust.

"Don't you dare peek, Angel."
You said in bitter sadness.
"We must part the way I've planned,
For I have caught the madness."

I did not understand at first,
The peculiar things my love had told.
But as I thought upon his reasoning,
I felt the room and air around us grow cold.

"Don't open those eyes, Love!"
He said in anger and calm.
And a muffled response from I:
"I have yet to do anything wrong!"

"...I just don't want my face..
To be the last thing you ever see."
Then is when I realize I taste more
Than just rust in between my teeth.

I'm not sure if it was from my love's anger
Or the heat from the rising sun,
But I opened my eyes and began to sweat,
Within my lips, the muzzle of a loaded gun.

I followed the sight, to the barrel, to the hammer;
Where the love of my life's thumb lay.
His hand and his body match, both shaking.
A single tear slides down his face as he begins to say:

"I love you, Dearest, do not ever forget.
For us, here and now is impossible.
This is not my will I carry out, Love.
Now brace yourself, the pain will be colossal."

I believe every word he sputtered there,
About the pain and anguish I was to feel.
Not from the bullet impregnating my skull,
But from my loveless heart, though dead, is real.
