I AM THERE
© 2010, Wanda L. Harrell
When you see a small bird building a nest on a tree’s newly leafed bough,
or sense a kiss upon your cheek and a sigh softly touch your brow,
I am there.
When, across your path, a butterfly wings its uniquely hushed way,
or you sip the sweetness from a cup of cappuccino at a sidewalk café,
I am there.
When you feel a gentle breeze deliver a tender kiss in springtime,
or when you hear, from a faraway tower, a lone church bell chime,
I am there.
When in the dark sky, a lone distant star sparkles in the night,
or you see a robin soar up high in solitary winged flight,
I am there.
When you see water’s unrelenting rush down a mountainside,
or sense the warmth of a hand holding yours, walking alongside,
I am there.
When, upon the ground in front of you, a copper penny lay,
or you see yellow daffodils arranged into a small bouquet,
I am there.
When the energy of lightening zigzags across the darkened sky,
or you hear a solitary, gentle dove coo her lonesome cry,
I am there.
When your hand aches to reach out, but there is no one you see,
or you suddenly feel hope and are consumed with uninhibited glee,
I am there.
When rain gently plummets from the sky above to the ground,
think of them as my tears of yearning for you, falling without sound.
Although we are separated by miles and circumstance,
my heart stretches and my very soul reaches across the distance,
so let there be not one single doubt lingering anywhere,
despite the distressing fact my mortal body is confined here,
I am there.
