A poem

Poem Artwork

  I slipped in so softly,
as not to wake my weary soul
lost in a sea of pale blue,
  left open from the mirror.

Just a chance to check some slumber
that I could not seem to catch,
apparitions of misfortune disappearing down the hall,
 trying to remember
when I couldn’t feel so weak and broken.

The sun was slipping in the wood
through my stain glass crystal vision
all the icicles on the window
 beneath winter’s coldest day.

I had no more tears to leave behind
 just these apparitions beckoning me
without words, in and out of my dreams.
Nothing seems to matter but the wax
dripping from the fire as the light falls into darkness.

 Could I remember another day
 like every day before me,
that saw me kneeling in a doorway
refusing to let go of everything I knew
white cuffs over silk pleated tails,
why did I surrender to these customs?

 The people all around me,
 would never feel the same
as my pride lay dead before me.
  Above the bells so loudly
I heard my tears rain down from heaven.
Who was this man looking back at me
 over and over again?

You are creeping in the wood now
the crisp embers from the smoke trail
will mark your path once again...

I feel you peering in the window
at the man who bears a ghastly
 shade of truth
that we both can still remember.
 When this home wasn’t haunted
 by all these lifeless shadows.

I feel me slipping in so softly
as the music plays around us
Dancing in the twilight with everything
 I hold so tightly immortal.

Save your whispers for the morning light
when I am alone again
 Let me feel your breath
 still alive in me
as we dance again in twilight.

This is when I reach to embrace
 your kiss that has marked
my soul for as long as
 winter last a lifetime.

 But to you my lady
 I plead a little closer
not to kiss me near the window
 as I will watch away,

you chasing the shadows
of daybreak all the way to
  the ends of the earth
that would leave me here alone.

 Embrace me in this tapestry
 and dance with me again.
 Kiss me in the mirror
so I can feel your breath
like the rush of warming waters
in all me that yearns to live
in you forever.
  I’m slipping in so softly
 to everything I ever knew,
  kiss me in the mirror
as the man kneeling in the doorway
 disappears with those apparitions,
 dancing down the hall.

Life has become so grey and bitter
since death had stolen everything I knew.
But I cannot part so easy
in the dust behind a sunset,
or the gasp of  prevailing winds.

All the life that is left within me
could never choose to forget
everything I knew so dearly that weeps
 forever in my broken heart.

Truth be told to a crumbling world
dying around me
all the life you still live,
 a witness to your story
that dwells in every breath I exhale.
