How Long Has It Been?
It's been a long time now
since you came into my life.
It's been forever,
however long that is,
but my love for you does not fade with time;
the pain just increases,
and screams for its freedom,
yet so does the mind and the soul.
A battle of logic,
but logic cannot win when emotions rule the game.
As I pick up the pieces and put them together,
alone it seems I am.
Given up on hopes and dreams
that do not belong
in this perception of reality.
I fantasize, and close my eyes
to the way it really is
in my mind,
and I paint mental pictures
believing they're the truth
just to get through each day
in at least a little comfort,
then curse the nights
for they belonged to us.
Too much love
carries an incredible price in pain,
with nothing to gain
from loving you in this life,
if gain is happiness,
and the tender, gentle peace of loving you.
I wait patiently now,
for I know it will be you
who will greet me
at the end of this life,
and take me through to the next
where we will be together,
simply 'till the end of time.
