His cosmos
is diminished to the power
of minus one

in silent shadows powerless
to shield him
from the realization that time
is a thief,

robbing him
of the laughter that animated a multitude
of images now nearly obscured
in the recollection
of the last night
he knocked at her door,

measuring
the waiting moments
in heartbeats that travel a circuitous route to fingertips
that tap away the centuries
before she appears,
her face radiant with the love her lips
transfer to his…
and haunt him still in hollow dreams.

Gene - Anguished poem of loss powerfully expressed.

His cosmos

of the laughter that animated a multitude
of images now nearly obscured
in the recollection
of the last night

Gene, after the intriguing first lines, I felt the painful chasm of loss. Although writing creates a timeless world and brings past images back to life. I love the "heartbeats that travel a circuitous route to fingertips that tap away the centuries".

And in her memory she arrives…the veil of love
Caressing the heart still in love with her…Beautiful-yet so sorrowing within the emotion of it’s reality spent upon decades of that space in the heart unfulfilled to it’s entirety…did she love another…sigh…and I would wonder her thoughts...Upon “Hollow Dreams”….

ageless and timeless are descriptors that couple with emotions to loves, current and past, or across the millennia -- we anguish and then capture a flight of resolve, for the moment -- consequence is the impassioned side of love -- I only ask myself in which millennia did she capture your fancy -- this work left me with impressions and questions overwhelming my imagination -- another marvelous read Gene - peace and love friend -- Jon Michael

The smell of ancient frankincense infiltrates my olfactory when I read this poetry...how "she" eludes us at one time or another in our lives...lovelust is ageless and timeless in its coupling just as full of dreams as the Earl Grey in the tea boxes...unvarnished euphoria resides here bringing the silhouettes to life of these characters...this one haunts in the "silvered" mirrors of antiquity, Gene...

I love your transitions stanza-to-stanza. Your words are beautiful. Your use of the word "hollow" intrigues me as it relates to dreams "not filled/fulfilled." What woman would not want to be this one - the kind of woman that haunts.

Gene,
This is wise romance, romance on a universal scale, universal experience with underlying passion and longing and memory. And this is beautifully written.

Dear Gene: I like your poem. But did you know that time does not exist? Only change. Want to play semantics? want to slug it out?I like the beginning. It draws the reader in. in reality, I believe that no one canhide fromthe fact that "time is a thief." that's why we're all so crazy. Ah, love poetry. Romance. Where has it gone (for me?). Change is a thief. For one thing, it's taken certain body parts down to , well, just down. Lovely poem, G. But you know what? I think the title doesn't fit. Your dreams are anything but hollow. julie
