She was my science fiction woman,
I was her science fiction man...

Poem Artwork
Science Fiction Woman

She was my science fiction woman,
I was her science fiction man,
Yet our love was no fiction
In our science fiction land.

I wore my science fiction spacesuit,
She wore a spacesuit just like mine,
While we were floating together
In our science fiction minds.

She said her name was Taylor Trippy—
A flower child light years beyond—
She was a science fiction hippy—
A spacey and vivacious blonde.

She told me of our global warming,
Greenhouse gases, acid rain,
She told me everything I know
About the structure of the brain.

So we cruised through constellations
In our science fiction ship,
Transcending time and generations—
Forever free, forever hip.

She came from some unknown planet
In some uncharted galaxy,
And we were both kindred souls
In our cosmic fantasy.

And I don’t know how I knew her
Or how we came to meet that night—
She was my science fiction woman,
Who traveled at the speed of light.

At night I look upon the ocean,
The distant stars where she might be—
She was my science fiction woman,
Who set my heart forever free.

This one, aside from being the usual excellent specimen of your works, resonates in several ways, since I was a SciFi "fan" back when people still knew of Asimov, Heinlein, Campbell and others of the post-WW2 SciFi flowering that ultimately winnowed down to a banal obsession among 'Trekkies', LoL. I also had a 'SciFi Woman' of my own (as a young Tom Corbett, Space Cadet' clone) in that we were both deeply 'into' Science-fiction Fandom' of the 50s/60s, attending WorldCons, writing 'fanzines' and using highly specialised SciFi patois. She was wonderfully weird (in an ethereal way), but so was I, so we got along like two bodies encapsulated in a single capstan-type partial pressure suit. Thanks for the virtual, allegorical passage back to the Far Ceti-IV realm of my youth! (PS: It was SciFi that opened Heinlein's fabulous 'Door Into Summer', that presaged my blossoming interests in mainstream & classic literature!). Nanu-nanu and Shazzbat!

Where can I get one of those? I guess, like you did, in your dreams.

Very soon, we will have android companions that will allow us to do away with rigid human marriages and child bearing if we don't want to.

That's why I'm waiting around until my science fiction woman comes along. I'm writing her that way every day. Just like you did back in 2008.
