This was one of my darker moments whilst recovering from major illness a few years ago.
Silence oozes from white walls like a haunting.
It sleeks around the floor, fills bookcases,
poisoning words as they sleep on unread pages.
This is not the silence of old friends
in which shared experience makes talk spurious.
Nor is it the silence of lovers, echoing
passion and thickened with spent lust.
It is the clean cold, antiseptic - smelling
sterile silence of hopelessness,
it hushes the crowd and binds us each in
the darkness of our inarticulate solitude.
Most powerful in the way it grabs my attention and elicits emotion from me as I read. Thank you for this offering, Ian. Love, peace and strength to you. Regis
Hello Ian!
I Haven't dropped in for a while, but I see you've been busy!
I agree with Debashish and Carolyn! This is brilliantly done.
By the way, loved your Christmas Joke - got a LOL!
Warm regards
