'Little Red: From the Wolf's Perspective'

There is always at least two sides to every story. This story is told from the wolf's perspective in the fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood.'

'LITTLE RED : FROM THE WOLF'S PERSPECTIVE'

THIS VERSION OF THE FAIRY TALE RESULTS FROM  A WRITING CHALLENGE I TOOK FROM THE ONLINE VERSION OF "WRITER'S DIGEST."

ASSIGNMENT: REWRITE A FAIRY TALE FROM THE BAD GUY'S POV.

I have been bashed, criticzed, kicked around most of my life. Dad and Mom discriminated against me when I was growing up-never did get enough food; I always had to forage for more even after our "so called meals."

That view about the oldest child getting the best of everything is a big lie, at least it is that way in my family, I mean pack.

Oh, I catch food, plenty of it, but before I can eat, I have to make sure my three younger sisters, the little pups, have enough, and man can they eat! By the time they are finished, there is barely enough for me.

Not long ago, I just got fed up; I was mad and hungry because my little greedy sisters ate all of the food I had caught that day. Sure, this had happened many times,

but this time, I was famished because I was recovering from an upset stomach, and I had not eaten anything that morning but a mouse. When I returned home from a walk that I'd hoped would make me feel better, all of the food was gone, all gone! No mice, no mice tails or feet, not even a rabbit's ear was left!

I got mad then, real mad,and I ran off to my favorite spot to calm down.

Just as I got settled, I saw this little girl coming my way. She was dressed in red from her head to her feet, and she had a basket of something smelling real good. I was so hungry, I couldn't think straight.

Moving closer, I stopped right in front of her. I think I scared her because she jumped and said. "Oh, you're big!" I believe she knew I was a wolf, but she didn't appear to be afraid. In that way she reminded me of my little greedy sisters; They aren't afraid of anything either.

I said. "Yes", my pack members are long and lanky so that we can run fast when it is necessary. Red   also noticed my mouth and teeth and made a comment about their sizes too. I hoped she didn't hear my stomach growling.

This little girl was no dummy, and when I asked her name, she said "Red Riding Hood." She told me that she was on her way to her grandmother's to take her some food because she had been sick. I sure was sorry to hear about her ailing grandmother, but I was going to get that basket of food if that was the last thing I did. I was hungry, and I was weak, too weak to hunt for anything!

From under Red's long dress, a shoe string was sticking out, and I told her that she'd better tie her shoe so that she wouldn't fall and hurt herself, or spill the food in the basket.

She fell for it, and sat the basket down. I grabbed the handle with my teeth and took off like a rabbit! Red yelled. "Come back here!" but that wasn't going to happen.

After I was a good safe distance, back to my favorite place, I set the basket on the ground, opened it, and dug in. I was hungry, but I didn't wolf this feast down-notice the pun?-I took my time and savored every bite of one of the best meals I have ever eaten.

Of course I am sorry that I took Red's grandmother's food, but I was hungry and weak.

Yes, I know that you have heard that I ate Red and her grandmother, but that's just not true ;I didn't go near her grandmother. Besides,I have three little sisters, and although they are real greedy and keep me foraging for food, I love them, and I would never think of hurting them or any one else!

Now you have both sides of the Tale. Remember this version too,and tell it sometimes along with the more popular one.

Believe me when I say that I am not a big bad wolf. Man, that food sure was good!

I LOVED THIS SHARING! FIRST, FOR THE UNIQUENESS OF ITS CONTENTS AND ALTER-PERSPECTIVE. AND SECONDLY, FOR THE REMINDER THAT THERE REALLY IS ALWAYS A STORY...BEHIND THE STORY. OFTEN WE THINK WE KNOW WHY SOMETHING HAS OCCURRED...WHEN REALLY, WE HARDLY KNOW. THANKS FOR THIS POST, BARBARA. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.

I have forgotten the details of the original story. But my recollection is that the story is an allegory for trusting strangers. Today, people seem to fear the wolf after their children far more than in the day when that fairytale was written.

You seem to have covered all the bases. Like Jane says, it looks like Little Red Riding Hood told a lie to cover her embarrassment for being tricked.

Oh, so you are saying that Little Red Riding Hood made the story up to cover up her allowing herself to be tricked! Hmmmm...... I'll need to think about telling little ones either one. LOL!!

Love ya!
