Really a poem - sorry!
Forever Young
Cradled softly in loving arms
A young woman hums a lullaby.
London Bridge is Falling Down.
Hip-hop vibrates throughout the town.
Bird carols heard both near and far.
Wind chimes sway to rhythms wild.
Mother Nature bursts with signs of Spring.
Am I too old to sing?
Credit card bills, work nine to five,
Wife, sister, and daughter and soccer mom.
Should I go now or should I stay?
Our destinies carved by the choices we’ve made.
Samba, Polka, Viennese Waltz
Circling round on the wooden floor
Each step with a purpose and not by chance.
Am I too old to dance?
Tinkerbell and pixie dust,
Beethoven’s 5th with strings and snares.
Two lovers walking hand in hand
With only thoughts of Golden Years.
I’m jolted from that wishful place,
The scenes are snatched, these moments rare,
And vanish quickly like rising steam.
Am I too old to dream?
Then deep within where secrets hide
Where tears and hurts corrode our paths
A melody begins to stir –
New chords for Life’s unfinished song.
Designs the dancer’s grand jetté
And pirouettés in fields of blue.
The final chorus will not be sung!
This poem reveals your soul...and I feel that is what writing is supposed to do. You show a quiet wonderment about yourself, yet in the end your true character is revealed in your proclamation about the final chorus. Bravo on a showing to us what I think is the real Barbara Carraway. Very well written and thought out, especially the rhyme scheme.
