You leave one with a lot of thought. I, too, have contemplated the value of ending a letter with "Yours." Do we really mean it. Have we ever meant it? I found this story not only informative but very clever.
It is amazing how many things we pick up without thinking and continue to do it without really understanding what we are doing. The one thing that I did learn from tenth grade typing that did engage my mind was the use of "Ladies and Gentlemen" to open a letter rather than, Sir, Sirs, Master, Hey There, Hi, or other too informal or totally incorrect or obsolete wording.
