As a human being whose ancestors just so happened to be from Africa, the continent of Africa has always been intriguing to me. Of all the countries in Africa, South Africa has interested me the most. How did a large population of indigenous South Africans allow a small ban of Europeans not only to control them, but to apply racism, apartheid and to deny them to participate in a government that was setup by the Europeans for the Europeans? How Things Fell Apart answer this question and others.

Man inhuman to man...from the character of this relation it follows to what degree man, as a species, has become human, and has recognized himself as such. To what degree the needs of man have become human needs as seen in this relationship, i.e., to what degree another human being is needed as a human being. To what degree he in his most individual existence has at the same time become part of the community. The essence of the matter is that the object of consciousness in none other than self-consciousness. You will find yourself enlighten after the reading of this book about the History of South Africa. You will journey with the indigenous South Africans from their first contact with European explorers through their formation of their political institutions and beyond. You will experience how the indigenous South Africans combat the many injustices that were perpetrated upon them by Europeans.
