You’ll find ♫Nikita♫, ♫Chloe♫, and ♫Emily♫ there. ♫Amy♫ would always ♫Go On and On♫ putting her friendship with the other girls on ♫Shakey Ground♫. So they said ♫Screw You♫! And left to go and listen to the music and enjoy their ♫Elderberry Wine♫.
Now ♫Crystal♫, she would always ♫Go It Alone♫. She said, “♫Goodbye♫” to ♫Daniel♫ praying “♫Dear God♫, ♫I Need You to Turn to♫”.
It is ♫January♫ and the ♫Jamaica Jerk Off♫ is causing ♫Madness♫. He’s the ♫Man♫ who is a ♫Midnight Creeper♫ scaring all the girls in his ♫Monkey Suit♫. ♫Whiteman Danger♫ has nothing on this ♫Jack Rabbit♫.
The ♫Lies♫ in ♫Whitewash County♫ are ♫Your Starter For…♫ a ♫One Horse Town♫. Where ♫Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting) ♫ and people try for a chance to ♫Shoot Down the Moon♫. But wait ♫Out of the Blue♫ ♫Planes♫ fly overhead and ♫Lady Samantha♫ cries, “♫The King Must Die♫! For he created ♫The Wasteland♫ and now ♫The Last Song♫ has been played ♫And the House Fell Down♫.” A ♫Bad Side of the Moon♫ is seen and ♫Burning Buildings♫ cause all to retreat to ♫A Town Called Jubilee♫. The ♫Country Comfort♫ there is a cause for ♫Fat Boys and Ugly Girls♫.
The ♫Crazy Water♫ created a stir and ♫Crocodile Rock♫ was born and sung throughout the town. ♫Dixie Lily♫ had ♫Wicked Dreams♫ and was ♫Too Young♫ to see ♫The Big Picture♫, so she became a ♫Tiny Dancer♫. ♫Little Jeannie♫ let her ♫Ego♫ get the best of her and was forced to hit the ♫Cold Highway♫. When ♫Levon♫ noticed she was missing he asked, “♫Did He Shoot Her♫?”
♫Saint♫ Barnaby stated, “I wouldn’t have the ♫Whipping Boy♫ do that, she was sent away; ♫If You Were Me♫, What would you have done?”
“I would have sent her out of ♫This Town♫.” He replied and they walked away discussing ♫The New Fever Waltz♫.
♫Thunder in the Night♫ ♫Tortured♫ many. The ♫Street Kids♫ didn’t mind though, they enjoyed doing the ♫Street Boogie♫ in what was described to them as being ♫Just Like Strange Rain♫. ♫The North Star♫ was barely visible, but the ♫Answer in the Sky♫ was broadcast like a ♫Satellite♫. The kids asked, “♫Where to Now St. Peter♫?”
He replied, “♫Grimsby♫.” And told them to, “♫Grow Some Funk of Your Own♫ while you are there and stay away from the ♫Honky Tonk Women♫, as their ♫House of Cards♫ will be ♫The One♫ wrecked by a ♫Ball and Chain♫ and a ♫Hoop of Fire♫ will mark their sad demise.”
So, ♫Just Like Noah’s Ark♫ the group, who had settled in the small town, left by boat with ♫Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy♫ manning the ♫Sails♫. ♫A Word in Spanish♫ was spoken amongst the ♫Passengers♫ and the ♫Princess♫ made a ♫Cry to Heaven♫, but the ♫Empty Sky♫ did her no favors.
As the group neared ♫The Bridge♫ ♫The Captain and The Kid♫ agreed that the group’s ♫Sacrifice♫ was ok. They knew it would be ♫A Dream Come True♫ once they arrived, as they would feel at ♫Home Again♫ and ♫The Greatest Discovery♫ they could have would be ♫Made in England♫.
There was a lot of ♫Heavy Traffic♫ in the city. This was not the ♫Simple Life♫ the men had hoped for. A ♫Sweet Painted Lady♫ stood on a street corner singing ♫Someone Saved My Life Tonight♫. On another corner, a ♫Spotlight♫ focused on a man in drag singing a ♫Theme From A Non-Existing TV Series♫.
The group walked on until they reached ♫Blue Avenue♫ and a ♫Big Man in a Little Suit♫ with ♫Blue Eyes♫ greeted them asking, “♫Where’s the Shoorah♫?” They all looked puzzled at one another. The man continued on, “It ♫Amazes Me♫ how the ♫Cold♫ snap seems to last forever this time of year. ♫Did Anybody Sleep With Joan of Arc♫ yet? Trust me, ♫Don’t Trust That Woman♫, she was ♫Born Bad♫.”
After telling them where their rooms were he said, “Please ♫Turn the Lights Out When You Leave♫.” Then he looked at them and became ♫The Wide-Eyed and Laughing♫ ♫Flintstone Boy♫ he truly was.
All of their TV’s shown the same thing, a tribute; ♫Goodbye Marlon Brando♫ and their radios played a song called ♫Empty Garden (Hey, Hey Johnny) ♫. The young couple in the group stayed in a ♫Candlelit Bedroom♫ and would be ♫Blessed♫ with ♫Dream #1♫ ♫Birds♫ whistling of a new arrival, ♫Dream #2♫ the purchasing of a ♫House♫, and ♫Dream #3♫ an ♫Island Girl♫ saying, “You may now ♫Kiss the Bride♫.”
The next morning the young man left for ♫Cartier♫ to buy a diamond for his ♫Amoreena♫. Everyone was thrilled when they heard the news. To celebrate, they decided to go see ♫Bennie and the Jets♫ who would be performing that evening. Their songs ♫Ballad of a Well-Known Gun♫, ♫Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes♫, ♫Chasing the Crown♫, and ♫Dan Dare (Pilot of the Future)♫ would make for quite a treat.
To pass the time, they set out to explore the city. They found a store that sold ♫Candy By the Pound♫. A ♫Boogie Pilgrim♫ was singing ♫Jimmie Rogers’ Dream♫ while sitting on a park bench and feeding the pigeons nearby. A store window featured clothes all ♫In Neon♫. A ♫Victim of Love♫ sang “♫All That I’m Allowed♫ is ♫This Moment♫ and by ♫Tonight♫, I will be jumping off of the ♫Tower of Babel♫. For ♫My Elusive Drug♫, my ♫Memory of Love♫, has left me feeling ♫Cold as Christmas (In the Middle of the Year) ♫.”
A ♫Dirty Little Girl♫ begged “♫Feed Me♫.” Some members of the group took her out to eat and listened to her ♫Hard Luck Story♫. She said she recalled the days of sitting with her grandmother on a ♫Porch Swing in Tupelo♫. Her family had moved looking for ♫Salvation♫, but she said, “♫My Father’s Gun♫ killed ♫Between 17 and 20♫ and my mother decided it was ♫Easier to Walk Away♫.”
Once the group was reunited, they left for the concert. The opening song was ♫I’m Going to Be a Teenage Idol♫. ♫All the Nasties♫ in the audience roared to those nearby, “♫Bite Your Lip (Get Up and Dance) ♫!” And no one could ♫Believe♫ these people would ever ♫Come Down In Time♫. Finally, the last song, ♫Eight Hundred Dollar Shoes♫ was played and the ♫Curtains♫ closed. As everyone was filing out, the ♫Freaks in Love♫ who were ♫Fools in Fashion♫ said, “♫Here’s to the Next Time♫” and wearing their ♫Leather Jackets♫, they left for the ♫Holiday Inn♫.
The group decided they were ready to move on again, but the young man said to his fiancé, “♫Lady What’s Tomorrow♫, ♫Let Me Be Your Car♫ and I will take you to a place where we can enjoy the ♫Philadelphia Freedom♫ and ♫Live Like Horses♫, free of ♫The Cage♫ in which this group has placed us in.”
“Now wait a minute”, a gentle man said, “You are the ♫Son of Your Father♫, ♫Sixty Years On♫, won’t you regret leaving him behind?”
But the father spoke, “♫Steal Away Child♫. I recall ♫Old ‘67♫ when I was a young man like you. ♫I Fall Apart♫ sometimes thinking of what I could have been, but you know, ♫I Guess That’s Why They Call it The Blues♫. ♫I’m Still Standing♫ before you though and want you to fulfill ♫A Woman’s Needs♫ and go claim your place in the great ♫Circle of Life♫.”
The couple left then and the group declared that leaving the ♫Sick City♫ and going where it was ♫All Quiet on the Western Front♫ would be best. Besides, they had always wanted to witness an ♫Indian Sunset♫.
So, the group set out and on their way back to the states, their captain became a ♫Madman Across the Water♫ who told tales of ♫Mona Lisa’s and Mad Hatters♫ and of ♫Mexican Vacation Kids in the Candlelight♫.
Once they arrived, a man with a ♫Shoulder Holster♫ greeted them saying, “Y’all must be from ♫The North♫, ♫The Power♫ that be around here doesn’t take well to your kind, but we are a ♫Town of Plenty♫. I recommend you steer clear of the ♫Western Ford Gateway♫ old ♫Hey Papa Legba♫ resides in a jail cell there. How he has lasted all these years down there, I will never know. I’ll show y’all to ♫The Retreat♫. We have a band named ♫Big Dipper♫ who play every Saturday night at ♫The Scaffold♫.”
The women in the group shuttered. “Don’t worry, Ladies”, the man said. “We haven’t done hangings in this town since ♫Billy Bones and the White Bird♫ took over the old town of ♫Hercules♫ here. You will get to meet them when they return. They done ♫Gone to Shiloh♫ to ♫Burn Down the Mission♫. Can’t ♫Have Mercy on the Criminal♫ if his ♫Restless♫ ♫Strangers♫ try to cause a ♫Funeral For a Friend♫ of mine they’ll be saying, ♫Goodbye Yellow Brick Road♫ and ♫The End Will Come♫.”
The first night there, the group heard someone outside singing, “♫Love’s Got a Lot to Answer For♫.” When the song ended the person screamed, “♫If There’s a God in Heaven (What’s He Waiting For?)♫ ♫If It Wasn’t For Bad♫ luck, I wouldn’t have any at all. ♫I Should Have Sent Roses♫ I’m just ♫Better Off Dead♫, ♫I Think I’m Going to Kill Myself♫.”
With that said a man in the group went out and spoke to the ♫Lonely Boy♫. “♫It Ain’t Gonna Be Easy♫, ♫Love is a Cannibal♫ sometimes, but ♫Nobody Wins♫ if you end it all. You are suffering from the ♫Young Man’s Blues♫, but you must know ♫Understanding Women♫ is nearly impossible.”
“♫I Cry at Night♫. ♫I Never Knew Her Name♫, if I did, ♫I Must Have Lost it on The Wind♫. I can tell you I’m ♫Never Gonna Fall in Love Again♫. It will just be ♫One More Arrow♫ to pierce my broken heart.”
“Your ♫Blues Never Fade Away♫ unless you decide you weren’t ♫Born to Lose♫. Don’t be like a ♫Candle in the Wind♫ time is ♫Ticking♫ away. ♫When a Woman Doesn’t Want You♫, ♫When Love is Dying♫; you must ♫Mellow♫ out. Look up an ♫Old Friend♫ and just take it ♫One Day at a Time♫.”
“I hear what you are saying, but I ♫Can’t Stay Alone Tonight♫.”
“Come in and stay with us then.” With that, the gentlemen went inside. The radio was on and ♫Sad Songs (Say So Much) ♫ was playing. The young man wept for the rest of the night.
In the morning, a ♫Medicine Man♫ stopped by. He encouraged the young man to come with him. “We must ♫Recover Your Soul♫”, he said. And the young man left with him in the hopes that ♫Healing Hands♫ would end his ♫Pain♫.
A young girl in the group was approached by her father, “♫Who Wears These Shoes♫?”
The girl snapped, “♫All Across the Havens♫ I have struggled with ♫Bitter Fingers♫, longing to ♫Cage the Songbird♫ who would ♫Give Me the Love♫. The love I have been searching for, the one who was ♫Made For Me♫. He is from ♫Mansfield♫, he is my ♫True Love♫. He snuck on board with us and has been here all along.”
“♫You Get Brighter♫ every day, girl! But I ♫Wouldn’t Have You Any Other Way♫. I remember meeting your mother in ♫Belfast♫; she was ♫Just Like Belgium♫, those Belgium chocolates she loves so much. We wrote ♫Love Letters♫ whenever we were separated by the ♫Latitude♫. Oh, I was just ♫Lovesick♫ for her. Anyway, before you start singing ♫Duets For One♫, ♫Please♫ remember, ♫Georgia♫, that even if he’s a ♫Poor Cow♫, as long as he’s not a ♫Stinker♫ you should always live and love like ♫There’s No Tomorrow♫.”
The group took off later in the afternoon and got lost ♫On Dark Street♫. Their driver got smart and said, “♫Look Ma No Hands♫.” He had always been a ♫Spiteful Child♫. His mother scolded him, but he told her to “♫Sweat it Out♫! ♫I Don’t Care♫ what you say, we are all on a ♫Runaway Train♫. Isn’t that why we keep moving? ♫Paris♫, ♫Oceans Away♫, and then back in the states again.”
“Let’s discuss this when we get settled again, son.”
Once they reached the first store on their stop, the group dispersed and the mother and son talked.
“Dad was always my ♫Idol♫; I would give anything to fit ♫Into the Old Man’s Shoes♫.”
“Your father was a ♫Honky Cat♫, a ♫High Flying Bird♫ who, when I told him I was seeing someone else said, ‘♫I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That♫’. He also had a ♫Part Time Love♫. So please don’t be a ♫Slave♫ to the ♫Weight of the World♫ because ♫You Gotta Love Someone♫ and be ♫Writing♫ ♫Your Song♫ as you go. Carrying the need around to be like your father will only bring you down.”
“Let that be ♫My Quicksand♫ then! I’m a ♫Pinball Wizard♫ and I want to jump off of ♫The Diving Board♫ and create my own ♫Reverie♫ brought to life.”
“♫Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word♫, but I want you to know I am sorry for whatever I have done to hurt you. And just be careful out there. Some people wear a ♫Suit of Wolves♫ and they have ♫Tactics♫ where someone your age is concerned.”
The young man hugged his mother and said, “♫The Fox♫ will never catch me. I am ♫Too Low For Zero♫ and refuse to get caught up in the ♫American Triangle♫. I promise to sing ♫The Border Song♫ as I set off to ♫Conquer the Sun♫. I will be as we always have been a ♫Chameleon♫ in any environment. Now, please, ♫Take Me to the Pilot♫.”
They awaited the return of the group and from there they left for the airport. Before the young man left he waved to his mother and said, “♫Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me♫, for ♫If the River Can Bend♫, then surely, Mother, I will see you again.”
Once the group left, they made plans to go to the concert that evening. The boy’s mother decided some music would be awesome. She hadn’t heard a good ♫Love Song♫ in a long time.
The place was packed, that evening, and it became standing room only. The concert started with ♫Whispers♫ of “♫The Bitch is Back♫” from the side of the stage. Then a man resembling ♫Roy Rogers♫ and dressed in ♫Sartorial Eloquence♫ graced the stage. The crowd roared and the band started playing a ♫Medley (Yell Help, Wednesday night, Ugly) ♫. They followed that up with ♫Mama Can’t Buy You Love♫, ♫Li’l ‘Frigerator♫, ♫No Valentine’s♫, ♫Oscar Wilde Gets Out♫, ♫Postcards from Richard Nixon♫, ♫Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time) ♫, ♫Razor Face♫, ♫Rock and Rock Madonna♫, and ♫I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford)♫.
The group left satisfied. They finally felt like they had found their ♫Return to Paradise♫.
The next morning, ♫Angeline♫ felt compelled to write a ♫Dear John♫ letter to her boyfriend. She wrote, ♫I’ve Been Loving You♫, but this ♫Love So Cold♫ is more than I can handle. I know I ♫Pinky♫ swore I would love you until ♫The Hands of Angels♫ separated us, but I have cried, ♫Too Many Tears♫ and I have caught you being a ♫Voyeur♫ in the past. ♫The Best Part Of The Day♫ was us listening to ♫Can You Feel the Love Tonight♫ and watching for a ♫Shooting Star♫. Those memories will always ♫Take Me Back♫, but my ♫Teardrops♫ are weighing out this time. Enjoy ♫Sleeping With the Past♫, ♫Love Her Like Me♫. Angel
Laying the letter on their motel bed, she left.
When he found the letter he thought, if ♫I Stop And Breathe♫ I can gain enough focus to find her, ♫Wrap Her Up♫ in my arms, and tell her our love was ♫Written in the Stars♫. He got a ride to the airport, but was, too late. He left on the next flight to ♫Stormbringer♫ to ride on the ♫Heels of the Wind♫ and find his ♫Religion♫, as he knew he had been living wrong for years now.
The elder in the group saw all was breaking down. What was once a small town/group of people was even smaller. “♫It’s Getting Dark in Here♫”, he said to his wife. “In this group, ♫Hearts Have Turned to Stone♫ and although there is ♫Heartache All Over the World♫, it seems like we are dealing with a ♫Social Disease♫.”
“I know, dear, it really is sad, but you and I have ♫Warm Love in a Cold World♫ ♫When I think About Love (I Think About You) ♫.”
“♫Something About the Way You Look Tonight♫, my sweet, I can feel my ♫Heart in the Right Place♫ and you are ♫Never Too Old (To Hold Somebody) ♫, so let’s ♫Shine On Through♫ the night.”
The couple spent the night proving ♫You Can Make History (Young Again) ♫. While a ♫Texan Love Song♫ played in the background.
The morning brought shocking news that a ♫Tinderbox♫ had been ignited in the night. ♫Talking Old Soldiers♫ spoke of ♫White Lady White Powder♫ and her ♫Dark Diamond♫ which supposedly turns ♫Legal Boys♫ loco and gives ♫Val-Hala♫ enough men to keep him busy. This event caused great commotion in the town.
So, that night, the band played again to try and lighten the mood. They played a set of the following: ♫Slow Down Georgie (She’s Poison) ♫, ♫Since God Invented Girls♫, ♫Skyline Pigeon♫, ♫The Goaldigger’s Song♫, ♫Two Rooms at the End of the World♫, ♫You’re So Static♫, ♫Your Sister Can’t Twist (But She Can Rock ‘N Roll)♫, ♫All the Girls Love Alice♫, ♫Durban Deep♫, ♫Fascist Faces♫, and ♫Rock Me When He’s Gone♫.
The group returned that night to the smell of ♫Rotten Peaches♫. “♫Tell Me What the Papers Say♫”, one of the men said. The papers that were outside of the motel spoke of the ♫Snow Queen♫, ♫Slow Rivers♫, and how ♫Original Sin♫ would be the cause for ♫Someone’s Final Song♫.
An old Indian nearby spoke up, “This reminds me of ♫The Ballad of Blind Tom♫ and ♫The Ballad of Danny Bailey (1909-34) ♫. In this day and age though, ♫The Camera Never Lies♫ and when ♫The Day is Done♫, ♫Whatever Gets You Through The Night♫ may be the last thing you see. ♫I’ve Seen the Saucers♫ and ♫I’ve Seen That Movie Too♫, the one that shows the end of the world taking place. I advise you all to watch out for ♫Japanese Hands♫ and look for the ♫Grey Seal♫ to educate you on the things that take place in the coming days.”
Spying a man in the distance, the Indian yelled, “♫Hey Ahab♫, ♫Take Me Down to The Ocean♫! ♫Teacher I Need You♫, ♫Tell Me When the Whistle Blows♫ and we can set sail. We’ll talk of ♫Where have All the Good Times Gone♫ and throw ♫Sugar on the Floor♫ to keep the evil spirits away.”
Ahab spoke, “♫The Emperor’s New Clothes♫ would fit like a ♫Soul Glove♫, we’d be ♫Dancing in the End Zone♫ if we could get those and wear them on our trip.”
“There are ♫No Shoe Strings on Louise♫. She has a ♫Gypsy Heart♫. If you can find a woman, ♫They Call Her the Cat♫ and get shoe strings and proper clothes for my love, we will ♫Take This Dirty Water♫ I have and curse the Emperor and take his things and run.”
Those left in the group were shocked by what they had just heard. In fear that the end of the world was coming, they sought out the band and requested one final concert. “We are a ♫Long Way From Happiness♫, one of the men said. ♫I Can’t Keep This From You♫, ♫Love Lies Bleeding♫ and I want to hear ♫Blues For my Baby and Me♫, Can you play that?”
“Yes, we can,” the band leader said.
The band set up and played their final concert for the group. They played the following: ♫Breaking Hearts (Ain’t What it Used to Be)♫, ♫Can’t Get Over Losing You♫, ♫Don’t Go Breaking My Heart♫, ♫(Gotta Get A) Meal Ticket♫, ♫I Am Your Robot♫, ♫I Can’t Steer My Heart Clear of You♫, ♫I Know Why I’m in Love♫, ♫I Want Love♫, ♫It’s Me That You Need♫, ♫Song For Guy♫, ♫Stones Throw From Hurtin’♫, ♫The Man Who Never Died♫, ♫This Song Has No Title♫, ♫This Train Don’t Stop Here Anymore♫, ♫We All Fall in Love Sometimes♫, and ♫Whenever You’re Ready (We’ll Go Steady Again)♫.
And while the world never did end; things were crazy for a while, all made it out alive, and “Elton’s Song”, continued to play on.

Overall, this project took me three weeks to do. There are 401 of Elton’s songs used in this piece. I did not use all of Elton’s songs due to the large amount and knowing that many of them wouldn’t fit in with this story.
