Closing an earlier story with a concept I selected to reflect a feeling I wanted to generate upon hearing or reading news about threats to national security, I mentioned my intention to continue the story. I mentioned a line from the Psalms – “The thoughts and plans of men are of no effect” as the basis for my new feeling. I realize the media presents news to “catch” my attention and shape my reactions, but for many years I do not let the news influence my thinking as it did earlier.
For a while I tried to avoid hearing media news mainly because of “how it affected me” and the feelings it stirred. When I found I generate feelings by thinking, I decided to no longer let news influence my thinking. Instead, I decided to use news to test my imaginal capacities. No longer “giving” media news “attention”, I “take” cues from their reports for selecting categories where I develop mastery and dominion over my world. This meant choosing my feelings.
Prior to realizing I could determine the feelings I generated, I reacted to what I heard. I had “bad feelings” from “bad news” – feeling awful about a situation, appalled at something a person said or horrified about a tragedy. From Neville and Hawkins, I realized my bad feelings added to the atmosphere the condition making the news manifested. With my bad feelings – lower vibrations – I contributed to the consciousness that created similar situations.
News stories about threats to national security indicate thoughts and plans of man – people who use their senses and intellect to develop conditions from the lower vibrations of negativity and limitations, designed to generate fear in the general population. Yes they imagine the worst-case scenarios, feeding minds with extreme negativity – creating the atmosphere of fear. News stories perpetuate those fears, trying to control the action and movement of the people. Some people so accustomed to feeling fear feel normal until the media raise their tones to enhance the emotions to higher and higher levels – being sensational enough to get the attention. Seeing this happening prompted my interest to give new meaning to the stories I read and hear about.
To give new meaning to stories, I create a new atmosphere and determine how I perceive the news, generating new feelings about the reports. Daily I test Neville’s law of identical harvest. Being aware that feelings generated in the lower vibrations produce problems and limitations – tragedies, disasters, etc., I decided to produce experiences by intentionally generating the energy and light of elevated emotions. Although I heard about the threats I gave new meaning to the story by creating a new atmosphere, based on Truth: the thoughts and plans of man are of no effect – the thoughts and plans of persons intending harm are of no effect. I realized one simple thing: when the thoughts and plans of impending harm are ineffective, there is nothing to fear.
To buy into the news story I realized I had to believe someone would carry out thoughts and plans of imminent harm. Believing those thoughts and plans are of no effect, I do not buy into the story or react to it. To dismiss the belief in the thoughts and plans indicated in news stories, I rearrange the contents of my consciousness to reflect this view – applying a Neville concept. I contemplated, “The thoughts and plans of man are of no effect” until I generated corresponding feelings, radiating a sense of joy and serenity. In this act of contemplation I reprogrammed my mind, creating a new lens through which to view the news. With persistence I viewed negativity reported in the news from this perspective – I did not let it govern my thinking and reactions and I did not contribute to or support the conditions they reported. And I noticed other changes.
While I totally agree with news media generating sensationalism and preying upon fears, I try to separate the wheat from the chaff when digesting any type of news. I just can't go as far as dismissing the thoughts and plans of men having no effect, though I see your philosophy as a strong foundation to dilute the power of those hell-bent on doing harm in the name of ideology.
You certainly have a good point here. The news does generate sensationalism. The world is not what the news shows us; the world is much more calm and boring. I don't need Neville to figure that out.
But the news is not always negative. For example, there's been a lot of news about the Pope coming to the United States. When I heard that he was speaking before the Congress I wondered… If there is separation between church and state, why are we giving this Christian pontiff from an archaic church so much presence? Why isn't there disagreement like when Netanyahu spoke before Congress? So, I put the whole idea aside.
However, the news this morning carried the entire speech of the Pope and I listened very carefully. As I listened, he said very good things that resonated with me and will help our country now struggling between good and bad as though they are two sides of the same evil. I must thank the news for allowing me to be there, in person, when an historic speech was delivered to our country from a humble man of South American origin who now resides in a little country in the middle of Rome Italy. Pope Francis is a man of our time to be reckoned with and I'm certainly glad that the news brought me into his presence.
