Darcy Morgan was born as an unwanted child. She has to make her way in the world with no family behind her and learn about life as she goes along. This is her story.

The tale of Darcy Morgan continues (in short segments of poetry and prose)

Part 37

The following weekend, Darcy was ready for a good morning’s sales and had a list of Jumble sales in her pocket for the afternoon.

Hugh had kept a low profile since the trip to the shop where he worked, but Darcy decided it was just his shy way.

Such kindness seldom makes its mark

This giant of man with heart of gold

Make fledgling thoughts fly as a lark

His gift, a treasure to behold

Her plans move forward, safe and strong

Good fortune shines she can’t go wrong

Saturday morning, just as Darcy was packing away, Guy from the next stall came over and invited her for a drink. He and his partner, plus a few friends would be going. Darcy accepted immediately, Guy was a very fun character and always made her laugh. They were to meet in the Queens that evening.

Throwing the last of her goods into boxes and loading the little barrow that Bruno had given her, Darcy hurried up the hill, back to the café. She had to park this lot before she could get herself across town to the sales and there wasn’t much time.

Little bird, much wiser now

Knows to make the head of queue

Be the first to make a deal

And stake her claim on revenue

Dainty feet are planted firm

Let those behind her cuss and squirm

Thirty minutes rough and scrum

These old girls don’t stand a chance

All depends on sight and speed

If fledgling’s plan is to advance

Count the coppers, make them tally

Keep enough for next thrift rally

Darcy returned to the café exhausted but her bags were filled with potential. She couldn’t have been more pleased. There was even a little tan suede skirt in her size, and it had been dry cleaned. She would wear it this evening.

I wish I could make more time to read more segments of this story, but my work is overwhelming me, and has been for the past few months. My own posting is dragging up older poems as I don't have enough time to write new ones at the moment. This was really enjoyable.

So good to see you posting this again. As a testament to how good it is with my poor memory, I picked right up where the story left off.

Been a long time since you have posted anything on this story. I like the format you have given this. Short, informative, and very descriptive.
