Her plans become entangled when she stumbles across evidence that links a corrupt local lawman to a vicious crime. A rock slide on the train tracks strands the travelers, leaves a U.S. Army payroll vulnerable to outlaws, and places Amands's life in danger. U.S. Marshal Thomas Benton is working with the army and steps in to escort Amanda to safety as events escalate toward conflict. The most difficult struggle looms in her heart as Amanda follows Thomas through the dangers of the American West in the year of 1870.

The fiddle music seemed to drift away into the warm evening. The yard became a blend of color. She lost track of everything around her with the exception of the strong arms that held her close and the blue eyes that held her heart.
Thomas slowed the pace and fell out of rhythm with the song. The music continued without them. He led her several more steps as they slowed to little more than a shuffle. She wondered what was happening, and then caught her breath as he lowered his face toward hers.

Had to read this book in one sitting as I just could not put it down. The characters are wonderful and the description of flora and fauna is some of the best I have ever read. I am ready for the sequel. This is a terrific first book!
