Iris and Ted Johnson, travel down to Weymouth with their 4 children, Teresa (14), twins (13) Kenny and Sam and 10-year old Jenny. They are down for a 6-week summer holiday, something they try to do each year. They have rented a cottage some 5 miles outside of Weymouth, in a village called Bincombe. From there they expect to have a restful holiday and visit some of Dorset’s beautiful landmarks. On settling in, the children discover an old mansion type house close by and the boys are convinced it holds some type of mystery and that perhaps smugglers may use this to stash their booty. On closer inspection, which includes going the through the gardens and into the house, they find that the house does hold a mystery – in the form of a 14- year old African Prince called Agdobi Abong’o. At first the children think that two men who are within the house, Benson and Magdafola, have kidnapped him. They set out to try and rescue Agdobi and in their endeavours, discover that the house has a tunnel that leads from the cellar of the house, down to the sea. They also discover that Benson and Magdafola are in fact looking after Agdobi, whose father is the Chief of a Tribe back in Tawtona, in Central Africa and certain people who do not wish for Agdobi to succeed his father are trying to kill him. From there-on the adventure begins and the children find themselves helping Agdobi escape after they discover two mystery men in a white car, who appear to be looking for Agdobi. The adventure leads them on a rowing boat escape to nearby Portland and then, with Special Branch attempting to protect Agdobi and rescue the other children, the story comes to a thrilling climax. The Mystery of Bincombe Towers is good clean fun keeping the reader sitting on the edge of their seat.
