Licensed alcohol and drug counselor Gary Blanchard offers a common-sense approach to treating addiction based on 12-step philosophy, evidence-based tools and techniques, and his own Positive Path Recovery. This book offers ideas, suggestions, and a number of worksheets that will help those who want to overcome addiction.

While working as an addictions counselor, Gary Blanchard realized that, while many were helped by the 12-step approach of AA, a large number of people were resistant to aspects of the 12-step approach. He also discivered there were tasks that people needed to complete in order to be successful in recovery. This led him to develop his own Positive Path Recovery approach; one that is compatible with the 12-step philisophy but could also be used on its own.

This book outlines the Eight Principles of Positive Path Recovery, and offers a series of simple worksheets to help people in their recovery. Many have found this book to be a useful tool in successfully moving from addiction to recovery.

Excerpt

I have come to believe that it is time to look at relapse in recovery in a different way. I don’t mean that we have been looking at it in a wrong way, but maybe a different approach to relapse will make it easier for people who choose the path of recovery to remain successful in their effort. In this book I hope to present a number of thoughts and suggestions for building a successful, lasting recovery. These short articles each provide food for thought, or help, or encouragement, or information. I keep them short so you can easily read them as your time allows. If you put them all together, though, they do offer a different way to think about relapse, a way to move your thoughts from failure to success. I don’t present any radical ideas, but these ideas can lead to radical, positive change.
