THE OPEN DOOR IN HEAVEN
Revelation 4: 1
In vision John was actually invited into the heavens of Gods abode, and is allowed to record some of what he saw.
“After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.”
In Revelation Chapters 4 and 5, we, along with John, will have a look at the throne room of Heaven. We will be reminded that no matter what happens on Earth, God is still on the throne and still in control. Transported to Heaven
In Chapter 4, the scene changes dramatically. John uses the phrase, “After this”(Revelation 4:1), as a transitional statement. John saw a door opened in Heaven. He heard the voice of our Lord inviting him to come through the door and into Heaven.
John says that immediately, he was in the Spirit (Revelation 4:2). We are not sure if John was literally caught up in a “temporary” Rapture.
But he seems to imply that he was caught up in a vision of the throne room of God in Heaven.
Transfixed by the Throne
John is literally transfixed by the throne of God. He sees God in all of His shekinahglory, giving off a glowing, radiant light.
Then he describes the throne. Around it was a rainbow like an emerald. There were also 24 seats on which 24 elders sat, clothed in the white raiment of salvation through Christ. These 24 elders represent the redeemed family of God.
It is interesting that, from the time John is caught up to Heaven in Chapter 4, until Chapter 19, when Christ returns, there are no more references to the Church in Revelation. This lends substance to our belief that the Church will be raptured prior to the judgments of the Tribulation being poured out.
