Chapter One Las Vegas, April 2012

I got up in the morning grabbed my travel bag and hopped into my Saturn and drove to the Sacramento Amtrak Station and hopped the Amtrak Bus to Stockton, CA were I got on the train heading to Bakersfield, CA 100 miles north of LA. At Bakersfield I boarded the Amtrak Bus to Las Vegas, NV a 5.5hour trip across the Mojave Desert with a 30minute stop in Barstow, CA at the Barstow Station where several buses are parked. There are several restaurants and souvenir shops and some great Mexican food!

Barstow is located in the Mojave Desert halfway between Los Angeles, CA and Las Vegas, NV just outside the town is the NASA Goldstone Deep Space Communication Complex, which was featured in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The Barstow area has long figured into UFO folklore from back in the 50’s with George Adamski’s experiences.

Onward to Las Vegas and the end of the 12 hour trip from Sacramento, CA its getting dark when get off the bus in downtown and hop on a city bus to the Las Vegas Strip and my hotel, Circus Circus.

The next day I get on the double decker bus Hop-On Hop-Off tour bus to the Atomic Testing Museum which is owned by the Smithsonian and their recently opened AREA 51 MYTH OR REALITY museum.  At the museum are Wackenhut guards just like the ones at Area 51 cameras are not allowed and it costs about $20 and also has an alien/ufo themed gift shop.

The beginning of the tour you see a video from the Men in Black with warnings on disclosure and then onward to a cornucopia of ufology starting with the Kenneth Arnold sightings of flying saucers from his plane while flying from Washington State back home to Idaho. There is an audio button so you can listen to Arnold describing what he saw to the press along with press clippings and a drawing by Arnold of what he saw.

Next is Roswell, NM where in July 1947 a UFO crashed on Bill Brazel’s ranch a few miles outside of Roswell where debris from the crash was retrieved by Major Jessie Marcel and brought back to the Army Air Base where the 509th Army Airforce Base was stationed. Public Information Officer Walter Haut issued a press release that a flying saucer was retrieved and then the next day General Ramey released to the press that it was an army weather balloon and not a flying saucer that had crashed.

There are the newspaper clipping and infamous picture of Major Marcel and the ruins of a weather balloon the day after the flying saucer announcement and video by nuclear physicist/ufologist Stanton Friedman about Roswell.

Next is an exhibit on SETI, Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence with pictures of the radio telescopes and the Drake Equation on the possibilities of ET along with a Seth Shostak video on SETI. Following that is a video by Erich von Daniken on Ancient Astronauts and videos showing clips from movies such as The Day the Earth Stood Still, Independence Day and Earth vs. the Flying Saucers. There are several newspaper clips and photos about other UFO incidents.

After this tour I entered the Atomic Testing Museum and toured that which I highly recommend and then I catch the Hop-On Hop-Off bus to tour the entire Strip.

The following evening and its time for the Robert George Allen Haunted Las Vegas Ghost Hunt where I walk to the Royal Resort at 99 Convention Center and board a bus at 9:30 for a 2.5hour tour of Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas haunted locales. The tour guide wearing a top hat is Jac Hayden a licensed mortician and embalmer who has a TV screen displaying pictures of Bugsy Siegel’s body with 33 bullet holes in his corpse and Tupac Shakur’s body in the morgue.

Bugsy basically built Las Vegas from his Flamingo Hotel where he changed rooms nightly to keep from being whacked. Bugs was a hit man who helped form Murder Incorporated with Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano made up of both Jewish and Italian gangsters. Bugs liked to torture his victims by breaking all their fingers before blowing their brains out. Bugs ghost haunts the Flamingo.

Serge Knight and Tupac Shakur were ambushed at the light stop at the corner of Flamingo and Cobalt and we shown graphic pictures from the morgue where Tupac has as many holes in him as Swiss cheese. Sightings of Tupac’s ghost have been seen at this intersection.

Onward to Henderson where we get out of the bus at Green Valley Park where settlers died in the desert 150 years ago and we have dowsing rods and meters there are 5 spirits haunting this park.

Next we drive to and visit a haunted bridge and storm drains under the city where during a flash flood many homeless who were living in the storm drains were drowned and the ghost voices can still be heard!

The Redd Fox house, which is haunted by his ghost is visited although we don’t go inside. Redd died after losing most of his assets due to IRS problems. Many people have felt the presence of his spirit.

On to the Hilton where the ghost of Elvis Presley is frequently seen and to Liberace’s hangout where his ghost has been reported and then at midnight back to the Royal Resort.
