He, with only a few soldiers, must brave a surge of starving refugees, desperate deserters and pirates, make his way to the battlefield around the trade center and sanctuary at Kadesh. There, faced with the Egyptian armies of boy-king, Shi-shi, he must deliver the emperor's sealed clay instructions to his rebellious nephew, Hattusili. And Hattusili has no intention of surrendering his heritage.
His progress is further impeded by his own weariness, his dispair at ever satisfying the debt he owed his aging father, and mother, the queen. Strictly political, the charges against his ancient family had betrayal written large on them. Only his friend, Shargo the Strong, could be trusted.
Together they must succede if the empire had any hope of surviving the looming dark age.

I began to read this series beginning with "Starlight on Stone-South. I continued with North,East, and West. Finally the book that ties them all together "Crux" What captured me even though I am a Sci/Fi/Fantasy Fan was the characters and location of the stories. Being a Christian and studied the Bible, there are mentions in there of Tribes like Hittites, Moabites, and many more. However, this series, although fiction, gives some insight to civilizations surrounding the Holy Land. These are real people trying to survive at a time when the world was in turmoil. The area is what is now Turkey and the Middle East. Dynasties and Kingdoms are crumbling and the people are lost. I highly recommend this series, from the first one you will be hooked. Well done, Jan Estrup, I plan to read more of your fascinating stories. What if? is a large part of fantasy stories and this is one of the best
