What is a "Risky Relationship?" Any relationship that is not based on God as the foundation and the sharing of a common sense of purpose is at risk of failure. During flight the pilot and co-pilot need to be on one accord following the direction of the air traffic controller. Obviously, if the pilot is trying to descend and the co-pilot is trying to ascend there is going to be a problem with the flight. Likewise, in relationships there needs to be agreement in order for the relationship to move forward.
The saying "birds of a feather flock together" means that there is more success between people who have something in common than those who do not. Canadian geese fly south in the Winter in groups called a gaggle. The group has their destination in common; likewise, our best relationships will be with people who are going in the same direction.
The relationship between successful business partners is profitable because they share the buisness in common. Likewise, whether it be family, ministry, professional, or personal type of relationships their success is found due in part to what they share in common. This does not mean that only attorneys or doctors can have successful relationships but it does mean that they should seek things they share in common to be successful.
"Risky Relationships" is an insightful look into the success and failure in relationships. It is a comprehensive manual that deals with all types of relationships with biblical solutions for success.
As we reflect upon the biblical character of David we see how God used a myriad of different types of relationships to help him reach his destiny.
David was rejected by his father Jesse and his brothers which represented his natural family but recieved by Saul and Jonathan who represented his spiritual family. The relationship David had with Saul and Jonathan prepared him for his ultimate destiny to become king.
All relationships make better sense when we view them through the prism of God's purpose for our lives. Regardless as to what type of relationship we are in we should ask "what's the purpose?" What if you were married to a person who believed that their purpose was to be a missionary to a foreign country and you belived that your purpose was to get involved in local politics. Strife would be inevitible because the pursuit of purpose will carry you in opposite directions. The ministry of presence is especially important in marital relationships, long periods of time away from one another will put the relationship in emotional jeapordy.
"Risky Relationships" will provide God's wisdom for many of the issues we face not only in marriage but in all types of relationships.
