Author Robert Saniscalchi offers he third book, his first two being the sensitive BULLETS AND BANDAGES (inspired by his older brother who was a field medic Vietnam 68-69) and MY LIFE FOR HER (another novel focused on the Vietnam war and the after effects). FREEDOM’S LIGHT addresses the wars in Afghanistan and the subsequent effect on the world.
In a touching Preface Robert recounts the constancy of evil in the world – the struggle between good and evil in the form of terrorism. ‘The stark reality of the brutal kill-or-be-killed mentality struck home, and finally, the righteous of the world began to fight back. From the ashes, they gleaned a great lesson. They learned to seek out the evil ones and destroy them. They learned that even in the midst of a simmering, sinister doom, there is always, always hope. The sooner all of society realizes that we must stand together, the better. There is hope! In our combined strength, we will fight terror with deadly determination and at last put an end to this evil threat… and when we do; the world will be a much better place for it.’
The chosen characters are Rob and Roy – Roy being a veteran from Desert Storm. To offer a flavor and open the window to the characters Robert eases us into the setting: ‘It was a cold, blustery day in late November, in the year that was the dawn of the new millennium. The Marrinos were heading north on the Jersey Parkway, toward upstate New York. The driver of the SUV was Paul, locked in deep conversation with his two brothers, Rob and Roy. The topic of the day was deer hunting. In fact, the lure of venison and the thrill of the hunt were the very reasons for their annual trip to the family’s mountain hideaway. Paul, the elder among them, managed computer systems for a large accounting firm. Roy, a journeyman tradesman, worked in the Carpenters Union. Both were avid bow and gun hunters. The youngest, Rob, was 28, an enlisted man, working for Uncle Sam. He’d always been a sportsman, and he enjoyed hunting with his brothers, not so much for the kill as for soaking in the beauty of the great outdoors. Both Paul and Roy were married men, settled down, Rob’s military career kept him at a distance; thus, he always looked forward to this time of year. He’d invested almost a decade in the U.S. Army. A veteran of Desert Storm, he had worked his way up the ranks to become part of a Special Operations Delta Force team. It took Rob several months of intensive training to qualify and become part of that elite force, which was tasked with taking care of threats to national security. While he hadn’t walked down the aisle yet, Rob loved his girlfriend, Ashley, who easily accepted his long stays away. Amazing Book with Great Plot

Freedom’s Light written by Robert Saniscalchi is a wonderfully written novel. The novel begins with the introduction of two characters, Rob and Ashley, and recounts the tragic events of 9/11 from the point of view of the two characters; from here it goes into details of Rob and other characters, as well as a hunting trip that Rob goes on with two other gentlemen. I loved how the reader gets bits and pieces throughout the beginning of the novel about the tragedy of 9/11 from news reports to people’s conversations about it. This tragic and historic day leads into the main story line of the book, Rob is sent to Iraq following the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The author’s writing is smooth and very well detailed. The flow is perfect and the content keeps the reader wanting to read more. I loved this book and enjoyed the Author’s writing style. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy historic fiction or a book full of heroism and action.

Robert Saniscalchi gives us a great reading in Freedom’s Light. It’s not an easy story to go through as it deals with raw human emotions that are triggered by tragic events. This book specifically links the world before and after 9/11 and how that changed our perception of war and good and evil. The story goes through with the war in Afghanistan and Iraq and how that affects thousands (millions?) of lives not only in that zone of the world. It’s not only a war book. It’s about feelings and perceptions, family, friendship, and love. How one event can turn our world upside down in just one minute. It’s touching and heart-breaking and Saniscalchi offers the readers a brilliant piece of writing and storytelling. Sometimes, a book gives us not what we want but what we need. And that’s when the magic happens. Freedom’s Light is that good and you won’t regret it. I’ll surely check the other books by this author
Wow! What an amazing story. Not my normal genre but it got my attention and I'm so glad it did. A wonderful novel that introduces us to a group of brothers that do an annual hunting trip. The fun banter back and forth was very entertaining. We learn of a very tight-knit family that loves and prays for each other. One brother, Rob, is military, Desert Storm veteran, that was currently serving on an elite force.
Rob and his girlfriend, Ashley, are together on 9/11 and Rob is immediately called back to the base. Ashley loves Rob and understands his devotion to his country. She is use to his extended absences and for the most part handles them easily, but this time is different. She is worried, concerned and unsettled.
Robert Saniscalchi takes us into the nasty world of war and the fight between good and evil. The novel 'Freedom's Light' is an action-packed book that takes us into Afghanistan and Iraq after the turmoil of 9/11. Robert, through personal relationships, provides us with an often unseen picture of how society must (and does) come together against the tragedy of terrorism.
I enjoyed the back and forth of different conversations between Rob and his family, Rob and Ashley, Rob and his team and the terrorists.
'Freedom's Light' is an action-packed thriller that is an absolute page-turner. I simply could not put it down. From page one I was hooked and found the novel outstanding. 'Freedom's Light' helps us, through the author, to view 9/11 in a different light that brought American's to accept, and even want, the drums of war.
Robert Saniscalchi did an awesome job giving us a wonderful novel that provided us an outlet to our own personal feelings about 9/11. I hated to see the book end and would love a sequel; hint, hint. His writing style makes for a very easy read and I can't wait to read further works by him.
I cannot recommend this book more highly. I give it a 10 out of 10. You must check this one out. A definite thumps-up!!!

This is an amazing book it caught my attention from the very first page. Its about 9 11 and the terrorist that attacked the twin towers and the army that went to battle against them. While I was reading this book a song poped into my head and it is where were you when the world stoped turning by Allen Jackson. That song describes parts of this book. It is well written and I loved the main character. I never knew exactly what happens that day but mow I have more knowledge of what happened. I will recommend this book to my friends and family.

While certainly a military thriller, it is, perhaps, even more so, a family drama of those in the story who prayed, and were prayed for throughout the times of being "away and in action..."
For Rob, one of the main characters, this time, being away from Ashley, became an important component in his daily memories. More than ever, he wanted to be back home with her and his family.
September 11 had touched the lives of all Americans and many responded in one way or another...Rob saw a man standing next to an exit ramp holding a flag. "Rob felt the slow, encouraging beat of those drums as he drove on. He didn't realize it yet, but he was not alone, those same drums of war were slowly beginning to rise among the people...
Those who were gathered there were first shown a video of somewhere in the Middle East, terrorists celebrating, firing their weapons, for the American tragedy. The leaders were all of one accord, to send their Delta forces out...Light Force, codename for their most effective group was led by Lt. Rob Marrino.
There were six members of Light Force, with each having a specific set of skills, but who were also trained to fill in other positions, if needed. This is the story of their special mission where something had been spotted. Details of what was going on was needed... Intel was all that was needed... But the mission went well beyond that in the end...Was the Light Force prepared to deal with combat?!?
And stopping...the...next...attack...on America which was in the final stages?!?
The pace of Saniscalchi's "thrillers" are not like many... Instead, his books hone in on the values instilled in the soldiers, the values of a Christian nation, whose foundation when created at the very beginning, was on God's guidance and a desire to love good and fight against evil...Praying all the way through what they were called upon to handle...
Memorial day seemed a good time to share about this book, for surely Light Force's unit did not make it back whole and the bond of each of these brothers affected how they dealt with both the mission...and the losses that came with it... Freedom's Light is an American tale of praying heroes that depend upon God's help against evil. At this time in the world, I found it a welcome true-life story of our American soldiers and their families...
