Two months later we arrived at Crest View. Chiara, me and Travis. Malcolm who had returned for us pulled up to the double doors that looked warm and inviting. Chiara slid her arm through mine smiling lovingly saying;
“It’s beautiful darling.”
“Wait until you see it all.”
Then Reynolds appeared along with the new butler I had chosen Aimes. Old Edwards was retired now and relaxing in Italy in a villa, near his daughter, her husband, and several grandchildren.
I slid out first.
“Welcome home Mr. Gardini,” Reynolds said happily, then his expression changed as Chiara took the hand I offered and stepped out.
“Oh, darling it is lovely.” She pecked me lightly on the lips. Reynolds raised an eyebrow as if surprised and I wondered why. I was sure Tina had gotten the letter I sent and told them all that our engagement was off. And I had called Christian and told him that I was coming home late and why.
Aimes opened the door for us as we approached. I stepped into the hall first, meeting the smells of home and then I heard Tina’s voice.
“Bill!” I looked towards the top of the staircase where her voice came from. She was standing there smiling down at me happily. I stood there looking surprised at her. She did not wear any oversized warm-ups or large tee-shirt, or the lab coat and khakis and large white shoes. She wore no eyeglasses nor was her hair in a tight ball at the back of her head. She looked lovely and older in tight jeans that showed her figure and an off the shoulder top. Her hair hung about her face and shoulders to her waist in waves and curls. On her ears were small teardrop pearl earrings. She wore two-inch denim wedge shoes.
I watched as she seemed to sprint down the stairs passing Frank and Christian and then ran to me. Before I could stop her, she jumped in my arms wrapping her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck. She would have kissed me if I had not grabbed her arms losing her grip. She looked at me unsure with those soft brown eyes, then said “Bill” unsure.
