Mr Bramble lives in alone in his den in the forest. Made entirely of brambles, he's lived all his life being called monster, and fearful of being made into a human stew. He only ever ventures out of his den at night to borrow books from a library in the town next to the forest.
One fateful night he meets James Andrews, a boy locked in the library after hiding at closing time, and helps him escape through the secret tunnel he's built for easy access into the library.
