Perhaps President Bush had best rethink his insistence that The Holy Bible should define marriage for, as Washington state Congressman Jim McDermott pointed out on February 25th, in Genesis 24:3, for example, it states: 'Marriage of a believer and a non-believer shall be forbidden'. Later on, in Genesis 29:17, it is ordained that 'Marriage shall consist of a[n] union between one man and as many women as he would like.'
Then we have Deuteronomy verses such as 22:13 which stipulates that 'A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed' as well as 'If a married man dies, his brother has to marry his sister-in-law'.
