Paper controls us

We build a prison of paper that holds us in place as surly as iron bars. Our income taxes, our military discharge papers, everyone’s marriage and divorce certificates, all are on paper. The black and white sheets that accuse, that pass judgments, that praises our good works; also pays us and give us succor, or take freedoms away. It even is our money and our scripture.
This nation doesn’t run on gasoline or nuclear power it runs on thin white sheets of typewritten word. Everything you sell, buy or consume is documented on paper. Your health depends on paper to convey your symptoms to the specialist. The house you live in is legally yours on a piece of fragile paper. Who gains the white house is on questionable pieces of paper.
Oh, the computer may have tons of data, but it is all backed up on paper, (in case the computer fails we want proof).
Imagine life today. Can you find a place where paper doesn’t play a key role? It isn’t because it’s so strong, why a child can tear it. It isn’t because it’s fireproof or water proof or even too heavy to blow away in the wind. On a picnic we eat off of it, on a cold night we use it to light the fire in the fireplace. Summertime we fly it on high as a kite, in winter it’s a funnel to pour Anti-freeze into the car.
Yes! Paper has amazing power; from shredded trees, nations may fall. Children may be removed from their families. Addicts committed to becoming sober, at least for the time on the commitment paper.
