To Daddies everywhere: Happy Father's Day How can I ever thank you for all the gifts you gave me? Or even try to begin? Not dolls or dresses or pretty shoes, but the gifts that matter You were my first teacher of life's hard lessons. Not reading, writing or arithmetic, but the lessons that helped shape the woman I am.    You gave me the gift of integrity. Such a rare thing in this bad old world. You possessed it in abundance, and I admired you for it.    You gave me the gifts of courage and determination. How could I not learn these things, with a father like you? A man who though 60% blind, with impaired cardiac function, and a plate in his head, worked 18 hours a day to give us a good life. You taught me tolerance for all peoples. Never allowing even a casual comment about those less fortunate. You showed me that everyone is unique, and has a place in this world, no matter where they come from.    Most of all you taught me to be self honest. To acknowledge my shortcomings and own up to things. I learned that by watching you, time after time, admit your own shortcomings with grace and candor. If I have any regrets, it's this: you died too soon, working too hard to give us a good life. If only you had realised how very much I needed my father, instead of things.     You died when I was only 13 years old and left a gaping hole in my life, for a father is truly irreplaceable. Even so, you live on in your children and grandchildren. Out of love and a wish to honor you Daddy, I wanted you to know how very much I love you.     Happy Father's Day Daddy    Note: In loving memory of Louis Bohnne, who died August 1, 1960.
