The importance of my children and grandchildren.

The bumper sticker said, “If I had known how much fun grandkids were, I’d had them first!”  I chuckled the first time I read that on the bumper of the car ahead of me.  Now I’m a grandma and I find it is so true !

I love the warm sticky hugs from a grandchild who can’t wait to give you a kiss when they’ve just enjoyed a sucker on the way to Grandma’s house.  It’s the feeling of pride when your two year old grandson walks in beside you to a retail store and when a gentlemen holds the door for us he says, “Thank you, have a great day!”

Then there’s that phone call with a four year old granddaughter on the line asking, “Grandma is it my turn to spend the night?  I miss you.”

And it’s a new “inherited seven year old grandson” when he looks at you and says for the first time, “Grandma, when can it be my turn to spend the night?”

Grandkids say the funniest things.  Her Mommy has been working on her manners and she was riding home with me buckled into the back seat.  Her four-year-old giggle came rolling from behind me.  I said, “Kali, what’s so funny?”  She said, “Grandma, I farted and forgot to cover my mouth!”  I laughed so hard I cried.

There’s nothing better than holding a toddler on your lap while they snuggle into your arms and you hear a soft little whisper, “I love you Grandma.”

My boys were fun and I enjoyed them while they were young.  I had a neighbor who constantly reminded me they would be grown up and gone too soon.  She was right.

Now I cherish the times I get to spend with my grandchildren.  Each moment is special.  Each time one spends the night that time is reserved specially for them.

They have a time out step at Grandma’s house but we seldom have to use it.  All it takes is a threat for someone else to take his or her turn next time.  No problems from then on.

The best part of being a grandparent is that all inclusive, unconditional love that only an innocent child can give.

I love my grandkids, all thirteen of them!
