When I first moved into the apartment I live in now I was disappointed that it was in the back of the apartment building (I was tired of apartment hunting and was going to take the place if it was at all acceptable). None of the apartments in the front of the building were available. I wanted an apartment in the front, an apartment with a view of the busy avenue two stories below. I wanted to see the people and the motor traffic. I wanted to see the action. Being a writer, I thought I needed the stimulation of human movement to inspire me to write.

The apartment in the back that I rented has a view of trees and hedges and backyards, lots of greenery. I've seen Woodpeckers, Robins, Cardinals, Crows, Blue Jays and wild turkeys up close. I've watched squirrels play tag in the trees and on the roof tops and watched them search for food in the backyards. And at night in the distance are the spot lights of the Cathedral of Learning that stands forty-three stories high against the black sky.

And my writing has been revitalized.

Remember that little room over Thuk's restaurant in DaNang? When one went on leave to wash away the taste of battle and solitude for a few days, replacing with strident music the ominous silence?
A room is a room is a room.
I am glad the change of scenery helped you to write, keep on doing it.

Nature and solitude are inspiring for me, as well. I enjoyed seeing a piece of your life here, Guy. Thank you.

Sounds perfect. You have no excuse now not to write. But, I hope the wildlife isn't too distracting. Hope it's quiet too. For me, quiet is the most important thing. Noise in any form upsets me when I'm trying to write. But, in the case of emergencies, I do have earplugs. The quietest time to write here is from midnight onwards. It would be ideal to write all night and sleep during the day, but it's not practical.
