Show don't tell. There's nothing wrong with telling some of your story. Sometimes you have no choice; but showing is more effective because if a writer wants to truly engage the reader's imagination the writer must write in pictures, in images. When a writer shows the story by using concrete details, dialogue and action the "reader becomes part of the creative process" by being asked to make judgements on what is going on in the story and not on what the writer explains is going on. Showing is also much more difficult to do. The writer is asking more of the reader but also more of the self. It's simply easier to tell a story; but for the reader it's also less enjoyable. Writers of fiction, whenever possible, show don't tell.
So true, so true, many a author tell too much and it kills the curiosity to see more, to learn more about the book.
