Interview with Lydia Phllips

Today, Tyler R. Tichelaar of Reader Views is joined by Lydia Phillips. Lydia is the author of “No Glass House”, a novel about troubled marriages and trying to heal the pain of broken hearts.

Lydia Phillips is also an author and actor. She lives in the Atlanta area and is at work on her next novel. Lydia loves reading, dancing, horseback riding and a good movie.

Tyler: Welcome, Lydia, and thank you for joining me today. First, I understand the book has a large number of main characters. Why did you choose to focus the novel on the problems of several couples rather than just one husband and wife?

Lydia: Having several couples dealing with multiple issues made it far more interesting and real.

Tyler: What inspired you to write such a book?

Lydia: I wanted to write a book that speaks to the human spirit. “No Glass House” will inspire, empower and uplift the reader.

Tyler: Of course, “No Glass House” is a work of fiction, but have you really known people who resemble any of the characters in the book? 

Lydia:Yes. There are some traits that resemble other people. 

Tyler:Do you think the novel is at all bordering on sensational with the statutory rape and the gay husband, or do you feel the addition of these issues add to its realism?

Lydia: The additions of these issues add to its realism.  “No Glass House” has it all drama, comedy, suspense, truth, romance, and erotica all rolled up into this book of relationships.  There are wealthy professional men who allowed beautiful women to turn their heads and jeopardize all they have worked hard for. Couples unable to commit, or can they eventually?

Tyler: Do you consider the book really to be erotica? Have you had any difficult reactions from readers because of the erotica, or do they just seem to enjoy it?

Lydia:“No Glass House” is a thought provoking book coupled with erotica that deals with many issues involving the human spirit.  All of the readers have enjoyed the erotica, especially with the heterosexual couples because they can relate.   Reactions regarding erotica between the gay and down low couple has been “wow” “intense and enlightening” “very educational.”   

Tyler: The review of “No Glass House” written by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views suggests the book is one that would be perfect for women’s groups. Do you think your audience is primarily women, or is it broader?

Lydia: The audience is much broader. It is for men and women regardless of race and gender.

Tyler: What kind of reaction have you received from readers so far?

Lydia: I’ve had wonderful reviews, from both men and women; they were not able to put the book down.  Most readers are reading my novel within two days. Everyone is asking for a sequel.

Tyler: Have you written any other novels, and what are you currently working on?

Lydia:“No Glass House” is my first published novel.  I am currently working on a novel about four successful black men and how they deal with manhood, family, success, and relationships.

Tyler: Are you going to respond to your readers’ demands and write a sequel to “No Glass House”?

Lydia: Yes. 

Tyler: Are there other writers who have been influential to you in your writing?

Lydia:  Yes. Terry McMillan, J. California Cooper, Toni Morrison and Alexander Dumas.

Tyler: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me today, Lydia. Do you have any final words you want to give our readers?

Lydia: Yes.  I would like to thank you for granting me an interview. “No Glass House” is a book with it all. Fast-paced, glitz and glamour and an easy read, you won’t be able to put it down.  Can Marvin and Deidre fall in love after 18 years of marriage once Daddy’s Princess goes off to college?  Can Marvin stop his philandering ways and find what he needs at home?  Will Deidre finally give up the sex more than once every 3 months? Will Simone ever forgive her mother for turning her back on her baby girl for a man who ends up leaving her high and dry?  Exposing his pious, pompous, preacher of a Daddy for the low-down dirty dog he is was not Malik’s intent when he attempted to search for him after living all his life in a low-income single parent home with his Mom.
