The picture here was taken with the hubble telescope. It is said this happens only once in each three thousand years. The scientists have named it "The Eye of God." He is watching over us

I woke up this morning and went downstairs to fix myself my regular morning coffee and turned on the news.  How ironic that I would need that coffee to pump me up while I watch the news, much of which is depressing.  However, that is my ritual.  Everyone is looking at that bridge in Minneapolis that collapsed.  My prayers go out to all who had to endure that tragedy.  However it got me to thinking about this quest for safety.  The human body is a complicated piece of equipment.  It is made up of so many different organs.  Like your family car, there are different parts and if any one of them fails it affects the whole body.  Maybe we should try to act with care and remember that it is a matter of survival but let us not go to far to extremes with this thing.  Safety is in the eye of the beholder.  The word safe is used as a word to help somebody to survive or keep somebody from harm.  It also means keep in a safe place or to safeguard.

If I feel safe it means I feel that I am not in danger, free from harm’s reach.  Life is fragile.  Think about it.  An auto accident because I was trying to tune the radio while driving and did not react fast enough to an oncoming automobile can happen in an instant.

Safe can mean harmless or riskless but what seems harmless may be more dangerous than you think.   You may feel safe, secure and face life with certainty but life is anything but that.  It is a second by second and minute by minute adventure.

If I go on and on about this it could make one think, “What is safe anyway?”  Safe is knowing that you have not wasted your life.  The dictionary does not mention that word waste.  We save the environment when we cut down pollution.  We save our air quality when we plant more trees and we save money when we spend it frugally.  We do not save our lives by worry.

Bottom line is live every minute of day and every day of every year, giving it your best and trust in God for what comes out of it.  Are we safe in his hands?  I firmly believe that is the only source or real safety we have to hold onto.
