I sent all of the candidates a letter asking them some tough questions . . .

Will Palm Spring's Candidates Respond?

Posted 8/20/2007 2:11 PM

Today I sent emails to the candidates running for Mayor of Palm Springs.   This will allow them an opportunity to respond to what I am looking for in a mayor.  In my previous blog entry, I said I would post my activities and information.  As I sort it all out, I believe this letter opens the door.  Let's see who responds and what they have to say. (Letter Below)

Dear Candidate, Congratulations on your candidacy for Mayor of Palm Springs.  In the upcoming weeks and months, I will be sorting out the credibility and professionalism of the local candidates running for office.  I'll attempt to look at things that are important to me. Your endorsements, political party and marketing materials have little impact on me.  I come from an extensive 27 year career in providing top level management consulting and training to corporations that include assessing management personnel.  My management consulting and marketing background can't easily be turned off.  However, my assessment will not be formal or comprehensive, but rather an opinion.

I will look at education, experience, communication style and most of all the candidate's professionalism.  Are you problem-focused or solution-focused? What is your communication style like? Do you fault find, shame, or blame others? Are you able to attack the problem and not attack people? Are you passionate about Palm Springs or passionate to be in the political arena? Can you take a ‘one-down position' and hear the other side out? How ‘fragile’ are you really? When the going gets rough, can you withstand the pressures that will surround  you? But most of all,  ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR CHANGE, that doesn't mean a candidate to change things, although that's part of the job. Rather, do you know your personal shortcoming? What is the evidence that shows you are open to personal growth?  As you can see, for me to find the right candidate is more than positions or issues.

I'll be sharing my thought, beliefs and concerns with the public on my Desert Sun Blog.  Please drop me an email and let me know your thoughts about the above questions.  This will provide you with an opportunity to respond in writing.  I look forward to hearing form you.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Linda K. Hisayasu
