.... Being on the losing end of at least one single sock each laundry day, I have been determined to find out just what happens to socks during the wash and dry cycles. I have never come up with any good answers or I should say, logical answers. My stupid and not so stupid guesses are: ....... They fall thru into another dimension....There are what is called "Sock Bandits" These rogue groups of thieves are notorious for causing havoc in most towns and cities and even now moving to the countryside. They thrive on dirty socks....it has been previously thought that these bandits steal socks once they are clean in the dryers of homes...but it is now proven by CCTV cameras that caught a bandit at work in Lincoln, Nebraska last year...that they take the missing socks BEFORE they reach the dryer and usually are taken before they even reach the washer........My theory is that all washing machines have a secret compartment that feeds on socks. Because it's only a small compartment it only eats one sock at a time and then it's full. This is why it's only ever one sock from each pair that goes missing.....there are no such thing as lost socks, maybe misguided or non-conforming but eventually all socks meet their maker and do find happiness....OR..MAYBE...please read Insomnia by Stephen King , he wrote all about lost socks and were they end up ... ..... What do you think happens to single socks???? Don't give me any of that sock monster who lives behind couches and snatches them up and eats them as you are  pairing them together..I already checked that one out myself--Nothing behind my couch
