Your suggestions make so much sense and it is fortunate for you that you live in a country where it is allowed to think and to rationalize, and to spout. At our home onomatopoeias are what was used to communicate when our children first came home from Haiti. One of the "words" that has stuck is "jhu-jhu"...the term we use for our hand-blender. Think about it...the word fits...

Ahoy Tom,

The "Pirates" are actually a couple hundred miles off shore in large mother ships. They launch their attacks in small boats from these ships. We can find a submerged Russian submarine in the millions of squre miles of the Pacific ocean, but they are telling us they can't find an old rusty freighter on the surface in a couple hundred square miles of ocean? May they should take covers off the binocurars? or maybe somebody should tell them to start looking. Peace

Hi Tom Hyland: Why, thanks very much, my friend, but you probably need to get out more!! There were many 60- 70 year old folks who rushed down to New Orleans to assist in both human and animal rescue after Katrina - and I never saw so many 'seniors' workin so hard - some of them put me to shame! If I ever get in a jam, I hope there's lots of wise old folks around to help me out.

And, in some sense, I do agree with you - the old adage - "There are no Atheists in Fox-holes" - comes to mind. There may be a direct proportional relationship between the Nearness to Death and Reflection on one's Life!

In Catholicism, we were taught as kids that Any Sinner, on his/her deathbed may REPENT - if they have True REMORSE and Confess - God Forgives them - no matter What the Sin, even Murder!

Whether True or False, it does not Matter - the CONCEPT is what counts - whether or not there is a Heaven or Hell, does not matter - IF that human being can die in Peace, believing they are OK with God, then some measure of Dignity may be restored?

We were also taught that if someone was dying, and had never been Baptized, and there was no Priest present, any Catholic could Baptize them, in order to Save their Soul!

My Mom came to Baltimore as a little child, from an unknown or now sunken island, on my Grand-Pop's boat, The Ella Covington - although she married my Dad as Catholic, raised three children Catholic, she never converted, or attended Any church routinely - so I never knew if she had been Baptized or not.

On her deathbed, I was there alone, in the Nursing Home, and I remembered the above. In the quietude of the circumstances, using Spittle from my mouth for Water, I BAPTIZED her! I don't believe I ever told this to anyone before! Although she didn't even KNOW me, my Love dictated that I do so. Right or Wrong - I do not regret this act.

On a happier note - Wet Licking Kisses from RUFIE are Always Welcome!

Abuse of Power is Wrong! Trying to use TRUMPED-UP LAW as an EXCUSE AFTER THE FACT to cover one's ARSE is Wrong! Lying is Wrong! Torture is Wrong! Cowardice in Congress is Wrong! Pretending it didn't happen is Wrong!

It may be too late for Impeachment - but Not for Prosecution! Punishing a handful of Foot-Soldiers who got caught on Pictures, and letting their Bosses GO FREE is Wrong!

While in the U.S. Army I was taught TO KILL - both with weapons: M-1 Rifle, 50 Caliber Machine-gun, 45 Automatic, Bayonet, and Hand-to-Hand Combat - BUT I was also taught The Military Code of Conduct, based on the Geneva Convention - NAME - RANK - SERIAL NUMBER ... No More - No Less!

This question has plagued me for many years, and I don't believe anyone can answer it intelligently, including any POPE!

Many years ago, a Rabbi published a book -
"Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?"

His young son had died, and he was searching for an answer, and understanding. At the time, I was going through a Divorce, after 34 years of marriage, and was hurting. My Niece, Bernie, a Nurse, gave me the book. After reading it, i did feel better - BUT - still was not satisfied with his answer.



He tried to simply suggest that God was NOT OMNIPOTENT - All Powerful.
This would then explain the existence of CHAOS! Randomness! That some things were Beyond His Control.

I didn't buy it! Omnipotence - Omniescence - Omnipresence - I believe these Attributes were ASSIGNED BY MAN - in a feeble attempt to explain away Man's Feebleness.

Is it Possible, or even Probable, that God, The Creator, is in fact - DEAD?

Is it Possible that, Christ, the Son, was to be the Contination, in the form of Man, but the plan of the Resurrection simply did not succeed?

And, then, Man, in his infinite Wisdom, INVENTED The Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit? The “Mystery” of “The Holy Trinity!”

And then, ONLY THE SPIRIT OF GOD EXISTS NOW -
in each individual human being who tries to BELIEVE?

The Spirit of GOOD - shortened to The Spirit of GOD -
Perhaps THAT is all that is left to combat EVIL?

Just remembered another old story, which I have posted previously, probably more than once.

When I was about 17, my good friend, Lonnie Griffiths, who was a year younger, and who died at age 35, from an Embolism - and his Grandfather, Mr. Fischer, who owned a Confectionary Store - we were going to buy a car for Lonnie. It was a Saturday morning. Anyway, this older man, probably in his Sixties at the time, said something very Profound, which I never forgot.

He said: "Religion is a Superstition created by Man, to try to explain his own Existence!"

ED-vard says he's 'proper'? Referring to the use of those fine ole jars as URINALS? Did come in handy on a long drive though!

MY Grandma, Aunts, and neighbors were all 'Home-bodies' is those old days -

JARS - peaches - pears - tomatoes - stringbeans - corn - YUM!

Years ago, our extended family used to go to an abandoned estate of peach orchards -
picked basketfuls all day - back home, blanched them, removed skins, added a powder - ascorbic acid, I think - to preserve - filled mason jars. When we ran out of them, used zip-lock freezer bags - YUM ... fresh peaches smothering vanilla icecream, in the dead of winter - YUM!

Sadly your experience isn't uncommon. I think, and I may be wrong here, that to be published effectively and to sell, sell, sell, you have to have friends in high places, like the "upper crust" for example, But we all know too well that there are a lot of crumbs in the upper crust so you have to watch your back in that clique at all times too. No matter how rich or well positioned a person is, he/she will steal you blind when you aren't looking. Good analysis of the situation here. Thanks, Hugs, J'nia

My friend, I give away more of my books then I will ever sell. I learned long ago that writing ain't for the weak of heart, or for those who want to make big money. I doubt that anyone on A.D. is making a lot of money from their writing.

And I mostly stick around here to harass that old Jersey Devil - now that is fun!!
