Whenever I sit and watch Them,
I am amazed at how busy they Are.
One long line scurrying Hither,
The other, scooting Yon!
Some are obviously going To Work -
The unending search for Food -
Others Returning Home,
Carrying their Burdens of Treasure!
Estimates say they can carry Anywhere
From Twenty to Fifty Times their Weight!
Bet that Blows Arnold Schwartzenager’s mind, Huh?
That Chemical Additive would put Steroids to Shame!
As you gaze down at their lil Hills,
Circles of sand, tunneling Downward -
Have you wondered What
It’s like under the Earth?
Colonies - Colonies - Colonies - Everywhere!
Ant-Hills remind me of Pyramids!
Egyptian - Aztec - Incan - Mayan!
But - Their Species did not Survive!
They obviously have a Plan!
Survival of the Fittest?
Millions - Billions - Zillions!
A veritable Microcosmos of Activity!
Classification of their Species
Range from 12,000 to 14,000!
Like Wasps and Bees - Highly Organized -
Colonies working for the Common Good!
Workers - Soldiers - Drones - Queens -
Castes which somehow know their Tasks -
And DO them Proficiently!
Quite Unlike Man!
Oh, how Upset we Get -
When these Unwanted Pesky Guests
Invade our Picnics!
#$%^**&^ - Critters!
Do Ants Scream when we Squash Them?
Do They Bleed?
Do they perform Rituals?
Do they have Funerals?
Now - Take a Giant Leap for Mankind -

Just Imagine Much Larger Titans -
Way Out in Outer Space -

I have, many times -great minds truly think alike - I sit and watch ants quite often - to me, they are utterly fascinating - and their lives are very much like ours - they each have a job to do (warriors, food gatherers, herders, and they even have baby sitters for the young.)
I started a novel several years ago about an ant colony led by a warrior named Anthony - and gave up when I realized that probably no one would even want to read it.
But Nature is truly fascinating, down to the tiniest beings on Earth, if we only look and listen and learn.
Ah, Puck, one of the wisest of them all. Neat treatise on ants. Ever try the chocolate coated ones? Ants could be our next protein source at many a meal and all it takes is a wee bit of honey. lol ps. Tom, I love all American accents and wish I could adopt a few just to try them on for size.
