Your message initially confused me. Had no idea who you were - Authors Den identified you merealy as a 'reader.' So, I googled your name and visited your site briefly.

The quote that you pasted seemed familiar, but there were no quotation marks, and I didn't remember that I had written it. Had to go to my own website and run a search on the word - gloog.

I had originally posted that god-awful offal as a response or review of another author's post by the that name - Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen’s - GLOOG -

Anyway, I am astonished that you even read it, I would surmise that you merely Googled - kloog - and followed the link out of curiosity. In a way, I guess I 'plugged' your business?

The 'piece' or 'story' where it was posted has an ambiguos title - T T T T T - Part 16 ... which stands as an abbreviation of - Tom's Tall Tales Told Truthfully - got tired of typing all those words.

It - 5 T's - was subsequently replaced by - Hyland's Horrendous Hogwash - which was shortened to 3 H ... over a span of time, since January, the 'Hogwash' has now been relegated downward to - CRAP, CRAPOLA, and MORE CRAPOLA ...

In any event, I sincerely thank you for taking the time to comment. if you are ever 'in the neighborhood' again, feel free to peruse and if you get a laugh or two, or learn anything partly worthwhile, please let me know.

FINE TRIBUTE, DARLIN' !!!

Just recently, watched an MPTV Special entitled - "The Good Soldier" - would that every American citizen should see it.

One Vet, the oldest, who served in WWII, told his story of the aftermath in civilian lfe, after he returned. Two others served in Nam - one, a Sergeant, a foot-soldier, who still cried - Thirty years later! The other, a Helicopter Pilot, also had great difficulty easing back into society.

The fourth, the youngest, a Marine Sergeant, served in IRAQ - after being involved in a massacre of innocent civilians, he REFUSED to continue, was Court-Martialed, but later was cleared on APPEAL - and given an Honorable Discharge, but after 13 years of dedicated service, could not erase the STIGMA!

All Four had the same conclusion - they were trained to be KILLING MACHINES - and they did their jobs - but, it HAUNTED them forever!

REGIS - very thought-provoking indeed!

Before commenting, I always read those posted before me - partly as an effort to discover the dichotomy of the subject matter, the opposing poles - and partly to garner and congeal my own thoughts, usually somewhere in the middle of the extremes.

Firstly, I had never seen the quote from Voltaire regarding absurdity and atrocity - it is very poignant to say the least!

In his Candide, he also said:

"God is in His heavens, and all is well, in This, the best of all possible worlds!"

At the ripe old age of 16, I saw the movie, "Candide" with English sub-titles, and luckily, was literate enough to be able to read - and understand - his 'tongue-in-cheek' Philosophy. He 'MADE FUN OF MANKIND.'

This concept, in turn, brought to mind another famous quote from Shakespeare, no less. Again, as a young teenager, I paid attention to many 'small details' - at that time, here in Baltimore, Maryland, there was once a newspaper (defunct for years now) called The Baltimore News-American. Every day, directly under the HEADLINE was depicted a caricature of the character PUCK, from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" - with the caption -

"What Fools These Mortals Be!"

T'would therefore seem to me that - when Homo Erectus evolved later into Homo Sapiens - he was NOT ALL-KNOWING - just realized he did, in fact, have a BRAIN!

Obviously, as scientists have told us, over and over, and over - we still only Understand, and only Use - a very, very, small, miniscule part of IT!

So, my Friend, just as there will always be - Haves and Have-Nots - there will also always be - Bullies and little ones - Sheep - Innocent Lambs - in this great big 'SCHOOL-YARD' we call Earth!

KARLA - no, Doll - I was a mere "week-end warrior" - from June, 1960 to May, 1966 -
only 6 mos. active duty - no benes, no 'surance, no commissary privileges -
NUTTIN' HONEY! But I did get an Honorable Discharge for 'playing soldier' for 5.5 years.

Weekend Warriors are vitally important. We sure appreciated seeing them come once a month - usually, we were short handed and LOVED having them come. Made the day go MUCH smoother. =]

Marine? Once a Marine, always a Marine. OOOrah! Semper Fi (from an ex USAF medic). =] Have cousin Marines.

Golden Corrals, nationwide, are feeding Veterans for free on Monday, November 16, 2009, from 5-9 p.m. your local time. Dependants have to pay. NO ID IS REQUIRED; based on the honor system. Go have a buffet, and regular sized drink on me. =] YOU EARNED IT.

5 years counts for something. If not to the government, then to me.

So there. LOL

Vietnam era? Well, welcome home, soldier, welcome home. Y'all didn't get the welcome home you so rightfully deserve(d). I aim to change that. I thank every Viet Vet I meet, tell them Welcome home, and then give them the world's biggest (((HUG))).

I love seeing these big ole tough guys tear up. Makes my year. =]

Consider yourself (((HUG)))ged. =] And thanked.

I don't feel like I served (even though I have the DD-form 214 to prove it). Never left Texas. My brother called me today to wish me a Happy Veteran's Day and chewed me out. By God, you served, he said, and THAT counts. Me, in a tiny voice: yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir.

Think I'm gonna argue with my big brother? Not on yer life. LOL
