The Tongue

Speaker 1 – Words can bring out the best in people.
Speaker 2 – Words can destroy lives.
Speaker 1 – “I am so proud of you.”
Speaker 2 – “You will never amount to anything.”
Speaker 1 – “I love you.”
Speaker 2 – “I hate you.”
Speaker 1 – I realize my lips do not belong to me if I belong to Christ. “May the Lord cut off all flattering lips and boastful tongue.” Psalm 12: 3
Speaker 2 – No one tells me what I can say. “I will triumph with my tongue; I own my lips – who is my master?” Psalm 12:4
Speaker 1 – I recognize my tongue is capable of praising God and cursing man. “This should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? … Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.” James 3: 10b,11;12b
Speaker 2 – I can tame my tongue.
Speaker 1 – “No man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” James 3:8
Speaker 2 – The words I say have nothing to do with who I am as a person.
Speaker 1 – “The tongue is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” James 3:6
Speaker 2 – I enjoy speaking many words.
Speaker 1 – “When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.” Proverbs 10:19
Speaker 2 – My words do no harm to my neighbor.
Speaker 1 – “With his mouth the godless destroy their neighbor but through knowledge the righteous escape.” Proverbs 11:9
Speaker 2 – Sometimes I have to speak what’s on my mind.
Speaker 1 – “He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.” Proverbs: 13:3
Speaker 2 – I choose to speak deceitfully.
Speaker 1 – “The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4
Speaker 2 – My words get me into trouble.
Speaker 1 – My words, when I guard my mouth, promote peace.
Speaker 2 – May my tongue have the power of life.
Both Speakers: May the fruit of our lips be filled with good things.
